Welcome to JumpCloud’s March Newsletter.

In light of recent global events, we want to take this opportunity to talk about JumpCloud’s commitment to the health, safety, and business continuity of our customers and employees.

JumpCloud’s top priority is ensuring the health and safety of our employees and their families while simultaneously assuring the availability and security of the services we provide. Regardless of the length of this unprecedented event, JumpCloud is prepared to support our employees and customers. This page details our business strategy, uptime, and actions taken to ensure our customers continue to have a seamless experience in this troubled time.

The COVID-19 pandemic is creating a large impact on organizations worldwide. JumpCloud as a company and a platform was built for this type of situation. Our cloud directory aims to enable work securely from anywhere, anytime.

Like many companies, our employees are working from home to ensure their wellbeing and help flatten the curve of COVID-19. We’re confident that our fully remote workforce will continue to deliver the maximum possible uptime and provide optimal service to our customers around the world. During this time, JumpCloud will not be sending representatives to upcoming events or meet-ups to keep our team safe and healthy.

JumpCloud was made to help organizations like yours continue to operate wherever your employees find themselves, and we want to equip you with the product and information you need to do so successfully. If you have any questions regarding JumpCloud’s COVID-19 preparedness or how we can help you to enable secure remote work for your organization, please reach out to us.

Our product and engineering teams are continuing to build features that enhance the JumpCloud platform and deliver value to our customers quickly. Here’s what’s new this month:

  • Reduce Phishing Risk with Local Password Changes on Windows & Mac
  • Dynamic AWS Role Management
  • PowerShell Corner: New PowerShell Dashboard Layout Options
  • Streamlining MFA with Duo

As always, find a more technical breakdown of our recent releases in our March release notes.

Reduce Phishing Risk with Local Password Changes on Windows & Mac

Set your users up to avoid phishing attacks with JumpCloud’s native Windows® password sync functionality. End users can now use Ctrl+Alt+Delete to change their password on their Windows machine’s reset screen for a convenient self-service experience instead of a browser-based method that might expose them to phishing attempts by bad actors. The macOS® menu bar app provides similar benefits.

It comes down to device trust. When users are trained to change their credentials natively on their machines, they are less likely to be swayed to change their password through a suspicious email. Key things to note about this update:

  • Password changes through Ctrl+Alt Delete will also be synchronized with Windows Credential Manager and all of their other JumpCloud-managed IT resources, ensuring your users don’t lose their saved credentials every time they change their password.
  • Windows users can still change their passwords via the JumpCloud User Portal, but the changes will only be synchronized with their JumpCloud resources, not their Windows Credential Manager. We plan to add Credential Manager synchronization functionality for portal-initiated password changes in future releases.

Dynamic AWS Role Management

You can save time and provide clarity to your end users by managing multiple AWS® roles across multiple AWS accounts using a single AWS SSO connector in JumpCloud.

By mapping user attributes to establish roles on your AWS SSO connector and applying those roles directly to users with custom user attributes, you can authenticate end user access to disparate roles without needing to build out additional connectors. Read more about the options for granting access using IAM roles to determine the best method for your organization.
Check out our video tutorial to learn how to use custom attributes to dynamically apply multiple roles through a single AWS connector.

PowerShell Corner: New PowerShell Dashboard Layout Options

Select and display individual directory data points using the JumpCloud PowerShell Dashboard’s single component layout, ideal for clear viewing when presenting the Dashboard on a television or monitor.

The new layout allows you to:

  • Launch and view specific dashboard components on Mac®, Windows, and Linux®
  • Specify the cycle interval to time your full screen dashboard components

Streamlining MFA with Duo

Thanks to our partnership with Duo, we continue to expand our multi-factor authentication (MFA) capabilities.

You can now disable JumpCloud’s native TOTP MFA and elect to use Duo exclusively to secure your employees’ User Portal. Tighten your security preferences using Duo Security policies and streamline end user login processes through Duo’s convenient push notification-based MFA.
