JumpCloud has enhanced the login experience for all managed macOS devices by deprecating the legacy macOS login window and migrating to the modern login window. This change enhances the login experience with improved security, user experience, and a foundation built on modern technology.
This update decoupled the modern login window from the Self-Service Account Provisioning (SSAP) feature toggle. This means that disabling SSAP no longer disables the modern login window. Similarly, this change won't automatically enable SSAP on your devices, allowing you to continue with it disabled if you aren't using this feature.
Understanding Key Features and Improvements
The modern login window offers several benefits over the legacy macOS login window:
- Manage WiFi connectivity from the login window by clicking Wireless.
- Refresh the login window to update any user association changes made by admins.
- View internet connectivity status at a glance with the red or green indicator in the top right menu bar.
- Review device health and diagnostic details by clicking the (i) in the top right menu bar for System Information.
Bugfixes and Enhancements
JumpCloud has also addressed the following issues with the modern login window in previous JumpCloud Agent Releases to prepare for this change:
- Inability to connect to RADIUS networks
- Failure to respect the "IsHidden" flag for local user accounts
- Incorrect handling of Fast User Switching
- Password field wrapping with long passwords
- Keyboard tabbing and accessibility issues
- Failure to handle password expiration correctly after a FileVault unlock
JumpCloud Agent support has ended for devices running macOS 12 Monterey and earlier. To ensure continued support and the best experience, we recommend updating your macOS devices to a supported version. See JumpCloud Agent Compatibility, System Requirements, and Impacts to learn more.
Transitioning to the Modern Login Window
This change decoupled the modern login window from the Self-Service Account Provisioning (SSAP) feature. Previously, the modern login window was tied to SSAP. Disabling SSAP will no longer disable the modern login window. See Provision New Users on Device Login to learn more about SSAP.
Rollout Timeline
We kicked off a Private Preview in July 2025, and have enabled the modern login window for all customers during a phased rollout which completed on August 28, 2025.
