Every fall, IT teams evaluate Apple’s latest releases and plan how to roll them out across their organizations. The latest releases, macOS Golden Gate 27, iOS 27, and iPadOS 27, introduce changes to how you manage updates, secure access, and control applications.
The goal here is to bring these updates into your organization while keeping everyday workflows running smoothly. Here are some highlights in the new updates worth noting.
What’s New in macOS Golden Gate
Three changes stand out for day-to-day administration.
Prepare for Declarative Update Management
Apple’s legacy mobile device management (MDM) software update commands and settings no longer work on macOS 27. IT teams now need to use Declarative Device Management (DDM) to configure and enforce updates. It would be wise to review your existing patching workflows before you upgrade.
Strengthen Authentication With Platform Single Sign-On (SSO)
Platform SSO now covers web-based authentication, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and QR code sign-in. You can also require Touch ID and extend authenticated guest access to FileVault-protected Macs.
Gain More Control Over Apps and AI
New controls let you decide which apps and binaries can run. You can also streamline privacy consent prompts and restrict features such as Siri AI and Visual Intelligence.

Manage Devices Through the JumpCloud Admin Portal
You can keep managing supported Apple devices through the workflows you already use. Support extends across devices, MDM, policies, commands, security, and insights, including Dynamic Device Groups selection.
Support Enrollment With Updated ADE Options
JumpCloud supports new Automated Device Enrollment (ADE) Skip Keys, including Liquid Glass. This gives you new, updated options for configuring enrollment.
Visit Configure Automated Device Enrollment for setup steps.
Use New and Updated Policies
Policy support includes Block macOS Golden Gate Installer and Automatic macOS Updates. Both help you manage the move to Apple’s latest macOS release.
Control When Your Organization Upgrades
Apple’s release schedule and your organization’s deployment schedule don’t always line up. You may need time to evaluate business apps, complete testing, and prepare users before a broader rollout.
For MDM-enrolled Macs, JumpCloud provides two ways to manage that transition:
- Defer major macOS upgrades for up to 90 days with Patch Management policies.
- Stop the standalone installer app from launching with the Block macOS Golden Gate Installer policy
The installer policy doesn’t prevent Golden Gate from appearing or installing through Software Update. Use the appropriate Patch Management deferral settings to manage that upgrade path.
For configuration steps, see Create a Mac Policy to Delay or Block Golden Gate.
