Configure Asana for the AI Gateway

To allow your users to securely query projects, manage tasks, and analyze workload using their AI clients, you can configure the Asana Model Context Protocol (MCP) server within the JumpCloud AI Gateway.

Prerequisites

Before configuring specific enterprise applications, we recommend reviewing the Get Started: AI Gateway guide to familiarize yourself with the gateway architecture and core AI concepts (such as MCP servers and AI clients).

Completing Application Setup

Before you can connect this server to JumpCloud, you must create a dedicated MCP application within your Asana developer console.

See Asana's documentation for Integrating with Asana's MCP Server and ensure the following prerequisites are met:

  • Enable the Server: You must create an MCP app within the Asana developer console. Ensure you configure your app distribution settings to allow the necessary workspaces (for example, selecting Any workspace or specific workspaces).
  • Configure Server Settings: To allow JumpCloud to securely route authentication tokens, you must add the following Redirect URL in your Asana OAuth settings depending on your region:
    • US:  https://console.jumpcloud.com/userconsole/mcp/servers/callback
    • EU: https://console.eu.jumpcloud.com/userconsole/mcp/servers/callback
    • IN: https://console.in.jumpcloud.com/userconsole/mcp/servers/callback
  • Authentication Method: OAuth authentication. You will need your Asana Client ID and Client secret to complete the JumpCloud setup.

Note:

Asana MCP apps do not use permission scopes; the token automatically requests full access to all available tools based on the authenticated user's permissions in Asana.

Configuring the Server in JumpCloud

See Adding MCP Servers in Get Started: AI Gateway and use the following values to configure this server:

  • App: Select Asana (if you have an existing SSO application or bookmark), or click + Add App to create it
  • Name: Enter a name, for example Asana
  • Prefix: Enter a value to prepend to MCP tool names
    • Note: Prefixes must be unique. Maximum 8 characters, letters and numbers only
  • URL: https://mcp.asana.app/v2/mcp
  • MCP authentication method: OAuth
  • Advanced fields: Enter the Client ID and Client Secret from the Asana MCP app

Your users will now see Asana listed as an available server when they authenticate their AI clients through the JumpCloud AI Gateway.
