Configure JumpCloud MCP Server for Admins for the AI Gateway

To allow your admins to securely query directory objects, manage users and devices, and view Directory Insights using their AI clients, you can configure the JumpCloud Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for admins within the JumpCloud AI Gateway. Connecting this server to the AI Gateway simplifies configuration by allowing admins to access all their MCP resources from a single endpoint, while giving you centralized visibility into their AI actions.

Prerequisites

  • Before configuring specific enterprise applications, we recommend reviewing the Get Started: AI Gateway guide to familiarize yourself with the gateway architecture and core AI concepts (such as MCP servers and AI clients).

Completing Application Setup

Before you can connect JumpCloud’s MCP server for admins to the AI Gateway, you must enable the feature for your organization. See Get Started: JumpCloud MCP Server to learn more.

Note:

The JumpCloud MCP Server for Admins enforces your existing Role-Based Access Control. AI clients can only perform actions that the authenticated admin is already permitted to do in the Admin Portal. See Admin Portal Roles to learn more.

Authentication Method: The JumpCloud MCP integration currently supports OAuth or API Token authentication. For API, users will authenticate their AI client by providing their JumpCloud API key. This ensures the AI agent securely inherits their exact administrative permissions. Ensure your authorized users know how to generate an API key in JumpCloud.

Configuring the Server in JumpCloud

See Adding MCP Servers in Configure AI Gateway Integrations and use the following values to configure this server:

  • App: Click + Add App to create a bookmark for JumpCloud Admin MCP. See Connect Apps Using Bookmarks to learn more.
  • Name: Enter a name, for example JumpCloud Admin MCP
  • Prefix: Enter a value to prepend to MCP tool names. We recommend using a distinct prefix to prepend to the MCP tool names, such as jc_admin
    • Note: Prefixes must be unique. Maximum 8 characters, letters and numbers only
  • URL: Enter the JumpCloud remote MCP server URL depending on your region:
    • UShttps://mcp.jumpcloud.com/v1
    • EUhttps://mcp.eu.jumpcloud.com/v1
  • MCP authentication method: OAuth or API
    • Advanced fields (OAuth only): Not required
    • App API documentation link (API only): Enter https://jumpcloud.com/support/jumpcloud-apis for instructions on creating and finding API keys.

Admins can now authenticate their AI clients to JumpCloud's MCP Server for Admins through the AI Gateway.
