Troubleshoot: Manual Sync for Software Installation

The JumpCloud Agent is responsible for managing system configurations, including software installations. While the agent typically operates automatically, occasional delays or interruptions in communication between the device and JumpCloud can cause tasks like software installation to remain in a pending state.

A manual sync forces the device to reconnect with the JumpCloud platform, update its task list, and attempt any pending actions. This process helps ensure the installation progresses without waiting for the next scheduled sync.

Symptom

Occasionally a situation will arise in which an Admin has deployed software to an endpoint, but the installation status is showing as Install Pending. To force the endpoint to check in an install the software immediately a manual sync can be performed. Otherwise, the software should install as normal during the next automatic sync.

Resolution

When Windows Store or JumpCloud Hosted software packages pushed through JumpCloud Software Management remain stuck in the "Install Pending" status, initiating a manual synchronization can often resolve the issue. This ensures the system checks in with the JumpCloud Agent and updates its software installation tasks.

  1. On the affected device, go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school.
  2. Expand the Connected to JumpCloud MDM item and click Info.
  3. Select Device Sync to manually trigger synchronization.
