Configuring, securing, and managing Windows®, Mac®, and Linux® systems is one of the core functions of IT. For many IT admins, however (especially those without system management tools), once they do their initial setups on an end user system, they often do not have the ability to remotely check up on that machine on an on-going, systematic basis. That’s why JumpCloud® has created a new product feature for IT admins, called System Insights™.
What is System Insights?
Using System Insights, JumpCloud admins can easily manage, control, and secure their fleet of Windows, Mac, and Linux systems. System Insights provides detailed telemetry about each and every system in order to help IT admins ensure that their machines and users are operating at the best levels. This new product feature enables IT admins to access this detailed database of system information via RESTful APIs and the JumpCloud PowerShell Module.
Ultimately, organizations using System Insights will be able to quickly and easily gather deep levels of information about systems so they can make informed decisions about their fleet. Examples of system data points that System Insights collects include users, applications, performance, memory, browser extensions, and hundreds of other data points. System Insights was designed from the ground up to assist admins with ensuring their systems are secure and that they have the tooling they need to best manage these disparate assets.
Systems are the conduits to critical IT resources including email and productivity applications such as G Suite™ and Office 365™, cloud infrastructure such as AWS® and GCP™, file servers such as Box® and NAS appliances, networks through VPNs and WiFi, and legacy and web applications. Ensuring that systems are secure and compliant is a critical step to managing a modern IT network.
What Does System Insights Do?
System Insights provides admins with a wide variety of different data points to help manage, control, and secure their Windows, Mac, and Linux systems. For example, this powerful product feature makes it easier to:
- Identify all users on a device (including those not managed by JumpCloud) and retrieve important pieces of information about those users.
- Query all of the installed applications on a specific device or across a fleet of devices.
- Look for bad browser extensions that may be a security vulnerability.
- Determine systems that are running low on storage.
- Easily retrieve hardware specs on CPU, memory, storage, model, vendor for a quick asset analysis.
- Examine connected network interfaces and settings.
- Reconcile application licenses and see when applications were last used.
- Measure the uptime across your fleet.
- Report on systems that do not have encryption enabled.
- Check security vulnerabilities against application versions, browser extensions, patches, and os versions.
With System Insights, IT admins can better prepare themselves to adhere to compliance regulations and company security policies. System Insights also informs IT admins about their systems as a whole, allowing them to operate steps ahead of support tickets and other time-consuming requests.
