About 9fin
9fin is an AI-native financial intelligence platform that helps professionals navigate the global debt capital markets with real-time data, analytics, and content. Headquartered in London, the company has expanded its operations across the US, Malaysia, Chile, Hong Kong, with a growing remote workforce worldwide.
Supporting this global growth required an IT foundation that could scale without increasing operational complexity. For Dave Brown, Director of IT and Information Security, the answer was familiar. Having successfully deployed JumpCloud at a previous organization, he joined 9fin with firsthand experience of how a unified cloud directory could simplify identity and device management. Although the team already used JumpCloud for single sign-on, Dave saw an opportunity to expand it into the operational backbone of the company’s IT environment.
When I joined 9fin, JumpCloud was primarily being used for single sign-on. I saw an opportunity to build on that foundation by bringing identity, device management, and lifecycle management together in one platform. From there, we expanded its role until it became the central platform supporting our IT operations.

The Challenge: Scaling Securely Without Growing the IT Team
When Dave joined 9fin, the company had adopted HiBob as its human resources platform and was already using JumpCloud. However, identity and device management remained largely disconnected.
- New employees received brand-new MacBooks with minimal configuration. Devices weren’t consistently enrolled in management and users retained broad administrative privileges.
- At the same time, 9fin was expanding internationally. A lean IT team was responsible for supporting more than 600 employees and over 600 devices spread across offices and remote locations worldwide.
The challenge wasn’t simply managing growth — it was building repeatable, secure processes that could scale without creating additional administrative overhead.
The Solution: Establishing JumpCloud as the Source of Truth
Rather than introducing multiple point solutions, 9fin expanded its existing JumpCloud deployment into the central platform for identity, device, and access management.
Today, 9fin tightly integrates JumpCloud with its HiBob, Human Resources Information System (HRIS), allowing employee lifecycle events to automatically trigger identity creation, group membership, and access assignments.
JumpCloud serves as our source of truth for identity management. Integrated with our HRIS, it automates user lifecycle management and gives us a consistent way to manage users, devices, and access across the organization.

1. Zero-Touch Employee Onboarding
One of the biggest improvements came from automating employee onboarding.
Using Apple Business Manager and JumpCloud Mobile Device Management, new employees receive a MacBook that automatically configures itself the first time it connects to the internet.
Employee details flow from HiBob into JumpCloud before their first day. Once users authenticate with their JumpCloud credentials, the device enrolls automatically, while JumpCloud applies security policies, installs applications, and provisions role-based access — all without direct IT involvement.
Within approximately 30-40 minutes, employees have a fully configured device that’s ready for work.
A new employee simply unboxes their MacBook, signs in with their JumpCloud credentials, and the device configures itself automatically. Security policies, applications, and access are all provisioned without direct IT involvement. For our team, it just works.

2. Managing Devices Globally
Today, JumpCloud manages identity and device security across approximately 600+ user accounts and managed devices worldwide.
The platform enables 9fin to:
- Centrally manage identities and device policies from a single console.
- Automate operating system updates with configurable deferral periods.
- Maintain approximately 95% of its environment under single sign-on.
- Manage employees consistently regardless of office location or remote status.
This centralized approach allows the IT team to maintain visibility and governance without increasing operational effort as the company grows.
3. Reducing IT Bottlenecks with Self-Service Access
As security controls became more mature, removing permanent administrator rights initially introduced friction for employees accustomed to unrestricted access.
JumpCloud Access Requests helped address that challenge.
Instead of routing every software or permission request through IT, employees can request application or group access through self-service workflows. JumpCloud automatically routes these requests to the appropriate manager or group owner for approval, allowing business teams to manage routine access decisions independently.
For temporary administrator privileges, employees can also submit self-service local admin requests, significantly reducing support tickets while maintaining security controls.
Results
By standardizing identity, device management, and employee lifecycle automation on JumpCloud, 9fin has built an IT operation capable of supporting rapid global growth without expanding its support organization.
Key outcomes include:
- Reduced onboarding effort by approximately 90%, allowing new employees to receive fully configured devices with minimal IT involvement.
- Cut user provisioning effort by 80-90% through automated account creation from HiBob.
- Saved 10–15 minutes per managed device during operating system updates by automating patch deployment and compliance reporting.
- Empowered a four-person IT team to support over 600 employees and over 600 managed devices across offices in Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and a distributed remote workforce.
For Dave, however, the biggest impact is confidence that the company’s IT operations can continue to scale.
Our IT team consists of just four people supporting 600+ employees and devices across multiple countries. Having confidence that onboarding is consistent and repeatable every time allows us to scale without increasing operational overhead.

Looking Ahead
As 9fin continues to grow, the company is expanding its use of newer JumpCloud capabilities, including SaaS Management and Shadow AI management, while continuing to streamline administrator workflows through enhancements to Access Requests.
For Dave, JumpCloud has evolved far beyond an identity platform. It has become the operational foundation that enables a lean IT team to securely support a rapidly growing global business.
