Manual user management is painful. That’s why we focused one of the core foundational server management functions on automating user management. A key part of that pain relates to the manual interaction with your users.
Today, when most organizations on-board a user, they manually work with their user. IT has to create an account and then manually email a temporary password or ask for their public key. That interaction is great unless your email system adds a character or your user mistakes an ‘O’ for a ‘0’ and you go back and forth a couple of times. Once they are up and running and things are smooth, your user might forget a password to a critical server. Unfortunately you are at lunch and on your phone, not close to your keyboard. You have to get back to the office and reset their password and you go through the same issue of emailing a temporary password that they need to go change. For your end users, they are tied to IT’s schedule and who’s on duty. If you don’t have 24×7 support, they might have to wait until somebody is available to help them. Any way you slice it all of this manual work is a total hassle for you and your team.
Our goal when developing JumpCloud was to eliminate these manual steps. They are time consuming and also add the potential for errors. DevOps and IT admins needed a system to take care of those steps for them. JumpCloud integrates easily into your workflow. Add in your company name, the admin’s name that you want your users to see the communication from, and change the email text to your liking. Now, when you set up a new user, that person gets an automated, customized email from JumpCloud to setup their account. They can set up their password or upload their public keys. They can also set up multi-factor authentication to sync with Google Authenticator on their phone. All of this is done without your involvement, saving you time and reducing problems. If they forget their password, they can reset it without going through you. Now users can do what they need to do and you can eat your lunch without interruption!
