Configure a Single App Mode Policy for iOS or iPadOS

With a Single App Mode Policy, you can configure your iOS and iPadOS devices to present a single application as the device's user interface. When this policy is applied, users only have access to the desired application, and cannot access the SpringBoard app that manages the home screen of iOS and iPadOS devices. This configuration is ideal when creating a kiosk or digital signage for your business, and for setting up dedicated conference spaces such as Zoom rooms.

To configure a Single App Mode policy:

  1. Log in to the JumpCloud Admin Portal.
  2. Go to DEVICE MANAGEMENT > Policy Management.
  3. In the All tab, click (+).
  4. On the New Policy panel, select the iOS tab.
  5. Select Single App Mode from the list, then click configure.
  6. Select the application in one of two ways:
    • From the Application dropdown, select the app from the app list. This list is populated from the VPP applications you have configured for your org.
    • Enter the Bundle ID of the application. See Bundle IDs for native iPhone and iPad apps
  7. (Optional) Select any additional Optional Settings to apply to the single app mode device. Note that when settings are enabled, they are not automatically turned on, but the settings to configure their functionality becomes accessible.
    • Disable Auto-Lock: Select this option to prevent the device from automatically going to sleep after an idle period.
    • Disable Device Rotation: Select this option to turn off device rotation sensing.
    • Disable Ringer Switch: Select this option to disable the ringer switch. When disabled, ringer behavior depends on what position the switch was in when the setting was disabled.
    • Disable Sleep/Wake Button: Select this option to disable the sleep/wake button functionality (side button on iPhone).
    • Disable Touch Screen: Select this option to disable the touch screen functionality of the device.
    • Disable Volume Buttons: Select this option to disable the volume up/down buttons on the device.
    • Enable AssistiveTouch: Select this option to enable the AssistiveTouch accessibility feature.
    • Enable Invert Colors: Select this option to enable Invert Colors (dark mode).
    • Enable Mono Audio: Select this option to enable Mono Audio, where the left and right speakers play the same content.
    • Enable Speak Selection: Select this option to enable Speak Selection, where the device speaks the text you select.
    • Enable VoiceOver: Select this option to enable the VoiceOver accessibility feature, where the device gives audible descriptions of what’s on the screen.
    • Enable Zoom: Select this option to enable the ability to Zoom in or out on the device screen.
      • Note: This setting will not work if Disable Touch Screen is also selected.
    • Enable Voice Control: Select this option to enable Voice Control, where you can speak commands to the device.
  8. (Optional) Select the Device Groups tab. Select one or more device groups where you’ll apply this policy. For device groups with multiple OS member types, the policy is applied only to the supported OS.
  9. (Optional) Select the Devices tab. Select one or more devices where you’ll apply this policy.

For this policy to take effect, you must specify a device or a device group.
