Troubleshoot: macOS or iOS Activation Lock Policy

This article covers errors that can occur while using the JumpCloud macOS or iOS Activation Lock Policy.

Error: “Unable to clear the activation lock due to an expired APNS certificate. Renew the certificate.”


The APNS certificate used to configure MDM is expired.


Renew your APNS certificate by following the steps outlined in Step 1 - Setting Up MDM.

Error: “Unable to communicate with Apple. Try again later.”


The device is unable to communicate with Apple's servers. This may indicate a networking issue.


Wait several minutes and try again.
