HAAS Alert is a software development company that builds collision prevention solutions designed to keep roads safer and smarter by helping drivers avoid accidents. By sending real-time alerts from emergency vehicles to drivers and connected cars, HAAS Alert helps drivers keep first responders and the folks they share the road with safe. The company was founded in 2016 and headquartered in Chicago.
Needing to enhance IT and access management
When Faiza Alam joined HAAS Alert as lead security engineer in February 2024, the IT team was looking for a better way to manage access and control its devices — including laptops, desktops, and tablets.
“We needed a more unified way to manage our systems and manage access to those systems in an easier way than Google Workspace was allowing,” Alam says, adding that the organization’s IT environment — which is entirely cloud-based — consists mostly of Macs but does include some Windows devices.
In her last two roles, Alam had used JumpCloud, the unified identity, device, and access management platform, for this exact purpose.
“When I first started, I synced with my team about how important it was for us to use this,” Alam continues.
Improving security & streamlining IT workflows
JumpCloud has enabled the HAAS Alert team to enhance its security posture considerably. In addition to securing access with multi-factor authentication, they’ve rolled out single sign-on (SSO) and Patch Management.
Above all else, HAAS Alert is most impressed by the peace of mind that JumpCloud delivers.
“We immediately recognized JumpCloud as the solution to secure and manage our devices remotely,” Alam says. “We needed to protect our company data, and JumpCloud was the obvious choice.”
Compliance
Due to the nature of the industry it operates in, HAAS Alert’s customers are laser-focused on all things compliance; ISO 27001 and SOC 2 are particularly important to many of its customers.
“Our audit requirements are heavily dependent on having proper policies and procedures in place,” Alam continues.
Streamlining IT operations
HAAS Alert uses JumpCloud Policies for a variety of tasks — like managing browser extensions and ensuring all equipment has antivirus software on it — which speeds up IT processes. Similarly, the team is also using JumpCloud groups and dynamic groups to ensure users can access the resources they need without a ton of manual intervention if any.
To lock down their environment even more, the team uses SaaS Management.
Thanks to JumpCloud’s automated offboarding capabilities, whenever an employee leaves HAAS Alert, the team can easily restrict their access to critical company data.
Looking to unlock even more value from JumpCloud
While the HAAS Alert team has already gained a lot from JumpCloud, the team is eager to deploy even more features.
As they continue utilizing more of the JumpCloud platform, Alam and her team are happy they have a resource like JumpCloud University at their disposal.
“I think it’s really well done,” she says. “I think there’s a lot to offer there.”
If you’re thinking about a platform like JumpCloud, Alam encourages you to check it out.
“It’s better to be secure than sorry,” Alam concludes. “In my line of work, you always want to be ahead of security-related issues; you don’t want to wait until something is on fire. JumpCloud helps you be prepared beforehand so you can turn things off if you need to.”
