A critical role for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) is to help enable their clients be highly productive. MSPs should be able to disappear into the background and allow their clients to simply work without the frustration that can accompany accessing multiple IT resources. The aspect we will discuss in this post has to deal with MSPs connecting users to their web applications and other IT resources, and in order to be highly productive, that means single sign-on (SSO) for MSPs.
Single Sign-On Today
Virtually every organization today is leveraging web applications. Web apps provide a practical function in that they require no maintenance from an on-prem perspective and they can easily scale to the demands of individual companies. The problem, though, stems from the fact that web applications largely remained outside of the purview of the legacy identity provider (IdP), Microsoft® Active Directory®. The result is that MSPs have been forced to purchase web application SSO platforms in addition to the on-prem identity provider and its myriad of requirements.
MSPs Crave Efficiency
Of course, MSPs are focused on creating ways to become more efficient. They also want to utilize less tools in order to streamline their operations across their entire client pool. With these considerations in mind, MSPs are looking for solutions that are delivered from the cloud so that they can avoid on-prem resources that could become major time sinks with a constant need for maintenance. Generally, fixing these issues requires truck rolls to client sites to fix problems firsthand, which can provide a challenge when MSPs often have to be in multiple places, dealing with multiple clients, at once.
Another challenge for MSPs is enabling end users to work productively with various software solutions. Ideally an end user would have one identity across all of these systems (Windows®, Mac®, and Linux®), applications on prem and in the cloud, files, and networks. Users shouldn’t have to juggle a variety of different credentials to access all of their IT resources. It should be simple, and users should only have one set of credentials to worry about.
A Unique SSO Opportunity for MSPs
As a result of this need for a single identity, MSPs are searching for a different type of single sign-on platform, one that shifts the entire identity management infrastructure to the cloud and enables one identity for each user to connect to virtually all of their IT resources. JumpCloud® Directory-as-a-Service® is that cloud-based directory and True Single Sign-On™ is that new single sign-on platform. With JumpCloud your users can connect to all of their IT resources including cloud infrastructure (AWS®, Azure®, and GCE), file servers on prem and in the cloud (NAS/Samba appliances, Box™), wireless and WiFi networks via RADIUS, and virtually any application they use via LDAP and SAML protocols. In keeping with the theme of centralization, JumpCloud also released its Multi-Tenant Portal, which allows MSPs to manage all of their clients from a single pane of glass.
