When removing Chrome Browser Management from Windows devices, the browser may get stuck in a managed state if the policy isn't properly removed or fails to unbind as expected. This article explains which registry keys need to be cleared to manually remove browser management status.
Symptoms: Chrome remains in a managed state (Managed by your org) with all policies still applied after removing the device from Chrome Browser Management in JumpCloud.
Resolution: Manually remove Chrome browser management policies by clearing the associated Windows registry settings and restarting the Chrome browser and device.
To manually remove Chrome browser management:
- On the affected Windows device, delete the following registry keys:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Chrome
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Google\Chrome
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Google\Chrome
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Google\Update
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\WOW6432Node\Google\Enrollment
- Delete the value named CloudManagementEnrollmentToken from the following registry key:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\WOW6432Node\Google\Update\ClientState\{430FD4D0-B729-4F61-AA34-91526481799D}
- Restart the device.
