JumpCloud® is fortunate enough to be based out of beautiful Boulder Colorado, on the vibrant downtown Pearl Street Mall. Boulder sports the stunning flatirons, 300+ days of sunshine a year and crisp mountain air at an elevation of 5,430 feet. Along with the natural spectacle of the city, a diverse and fascinating population ensures that going to work every day is its own unique experience.
Pearl Street Mall
Boulder hosts a broad spectrum of people and Pearl Street Mall is the place to see them all. Street performers, vendors, and GreenPeace activists alike line the mall vying for the attention of passersby. Some performers, like the community favorite Ibashi-i, have gone full time with their talents.
Ibashi-i is a Rastafarian contortionist who performs almost every day, and among his incredible talents is the ability to fold himself into the 20” plexiglass cube. He performs less than a block from the front door of our office! How many people can say they work a block away from a Rastafarian contortionist who regularly fits himself into a plexiglass block? Only in Boulder is one of the most common phrases around here.
While there are plenty of alternative lifestyles on display at the mall, on any given day there’s a good chance somebody in the crowd watching the same performance as you is the founder of a freshly funded startup, or the ecstatic employee of a company that just got acquired.
An Entrepreneurial Community
The Boulder community boasts all the ingredients necessary for a perfect entrepreneurial environment. Located up the hill from Pearl, The University of Colorado Boulder constitutes about one-third of Boulder’s 100,000-some population, which ensures a steady stream of fresh perspectives and eager entrepreneurial minds. High-tech industry veterans and newcomers from cities like San Francisco and New York have also been coming to Boulder and growing a community ripe for getting companies on their feet. Walking in about a five-block radius from the JumpCloud office, you could stop by the locations of other young companies like GNIP, SendGrid, TeamSnap, or SolidFire, just to name a few. This startup community is highly collaborative – people here want to see each other succeed. The multitude of coworking spaces like Impact Hub Boulder, Fuse Coworking, and Galvanize capture this symbiotic spirit of mutual success.
Something For Everybody
Boulder is undoubtedly a hotbed for entrepreneurial activity, but the city attracts heavyweight tech titans too. Microsoft has a Bing office a little south of JumpCloud, Oracle set up a shop a couple blocks away, and Google has an office on the east end of Pearl Street off the mall section.
With big business and small business, dreadlocks, and clean-shaves, the enigmatic downtown Boulder community surely is one captivating place to go to work. If becoming a part of this unique place sounds appealing, the city of Boulder provides free resources to help businesses get started. And hey, if you’re in Boulder, feel free to come on by the JumpCloud offices and say hello.
