Using a shared passphrase for WiFi access is a security risk. Anybody can easily pick up that passphrase or hack it and they are in your network.
You may say that there is nothing of value on-prem. But there is! Your users and their devices have critical data and credentials. They are the conduit to accessing the critical data and applications in the cloud.
Challenges with Securing WiFi
Unfortunately, securing WiFi access can be painful. You can setup your own RADIUS server and then connect your wireless access points to the RADIUS server and then subsequently connect the RADIUS server to your directory service. All of these connections are painful and add overhead.
Cloud RADIUS Makes WiFi Security Simple
With JumpCloud’s RADIUS-as-a-Service functionality you are secure, like a wired network, and your users authenticate to your WiFi with their unique credentials without the heavy lifting of setting everything up. You can secure WiFi with a cloud RADIUS implementation. You simply point your WAPs to the cloud RADIUS server. The on-board directory automatically connects with the RADIUS server. Your users now need to have unique credentials to access the WiFi network.
Even better, your users can use the same credentials that they have for G Suite or Office 365. And JumpCloud’s RADIUS client certificate supports authentication via EAP-TTLS/PAP and PEAP so you don’t have to install client certificates on the endpoints for the PEAP and PAP protocols.
Bottom Line: a cloud RADIUS implementation can save IT admins significant time and effort.
Resources to Understand & Implement Cloud RADIUS
We’ve put together a short list of some resources to help with your use of our cloud identity management platform.
Learn how to:
- Configure your WiFi clients to use JumpCloud’s RADIUS-as-a-Service
- Get Started with JumpCloud RADIUS-as-a-Service
Read more about the JumpCloud’s RADIUS client certificate and how to configure WAPs for JumpCloud’s RADIUS-as-a-Service. It’s a lot easier than you think and you completely avoid the heavy lifting of building your own RADIUS infrastructure, but you get the security that RADIUS offers.
