Scalable, modern directory services aren’t just for organizations in the technology or finance industry. Nonprofit organizations can use and benefit from them too. One directory service in particular makes it easy and cost-effective for nonprofits to streamline and secure their IT environment. It’s called JumpCloud® Directory-as-a-Service®. But, you don’t have to take our word for it. The Last Mile Case Study offers a rich example of how JumpCloud can help your organization thrive by scaling with a cloud directory. In this post, we’ll walk you through some of the key case study highlights.
Highlights of the Last Mile Case Study
The Last Mile (TLM) is a nonprofit that is training incarcerated individuals in technology and business skills so that they can successfully reenter society. They started out in one prison in San Quentin, California. Now, they’re in 11 prisons across 4 states. As they expanded, they realized they needed to reevaluate their IT management tool set because it wasn’t scaling.
As TLM considered their options, they decided their new directory service would have to provide the following:
- Support for Mac systems
- Robust security features like event logging and multi-factor authentication
- Support for resources regardless of location, platform, provider, and protocol
The right solution would also scale without needing a ton of people to configure and maintain it.
Ultimately, TLM decided to use JumpCloud Directory-as-a-Service because it was going to provide them with the automation, security, and user and system management that they needed to expand the program efficiently.
As TLM’s VP of engineering explained, “JumpCloud supports Linux, OS X, and Windows, and then JumpCloud also has LDAP and RADIUS covered. That is a huge chunk of the infrastructure that I need to scale a firm, and all that’s solved with this one platform.”
Benefits of Scaling with a Cloud Directory Service
Some of the benefits The Last Mile has gained from using JumpCloud include:
- Managing multiple sites from one location, using one pane of glass
- Remotely managing systems via Policies and Commands
- Controlling user access via MFA and SSO
- Securely providing end users with access to the best tools available
Implementing JumpCloud has been key in enabling TLM to successfully roll out their program at other locations.
