We recently caught up with Thomas Jennings about what it’s like to work as an Account Executive at JumpCloud.
When did you start working at JumpCloud? May 2021.
Can you run us through a day in the life of your role at JumpCloud? Without fail, my day kicks off with a cup of coffee. From there, I spend time on prospect calls, answering questions about the platform, troubleshooting early implementation issues, and generally helping folks make their IT lives easier. Like any sales role, there’s a bit of negotiation thrown in the mix. Usually, there’s an afternoon espresso as well.
How have you grown as an individual since starting at the company? JumpCloud has provided a great environment to grow as a sales professional. Between guidance from our Sales Enablement team and leadership, all of our sales representatives are put in a position to succeed. I definitely have a different view of what’s possible from a selling perspective and take a much more empathetic view of what our prospects are dealing with.
Pick a JumpCloud value (Build Connections, Think Big, 1% Better Every Day) and share an example of how you lived that value recently. Sales is all about Building Connections. Everyday we get the opportunity to meet new people that believe in what JumpCloud can do for an organization. I’ve been surprised at the number of repeat customers that come back to JumpCloud once they move to or start a new company. Two days ago I got my first repeat customer who had decided to set off on his own and start a new organization. One of the first things he did was put JumpCloud at the center of their IT environment. It’s a pretty great feeling knowing that we treated them well and they trusted us enough to utilize our platform once again.
What is something that you have accomplished at JumpCloud that you are proud of? Getting up to speed on the product is an accomplishment in and of itself. It was a little daunting at first because it’s a different sales motion than I was used to, but I’m proud I stuck with it.
What keeps you energized about working at JumpCloud? The quality of the product and the response in the market keep me energized. It’s hard to not be excited when folks are constantly praising how intuitive and easy it is to use JumpCloud.
What do you like to do on your days off? In all likelihood it’s a mix of going to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, working on a yard or garden project, playing with the dogs, or cooking.
What advice do you have for prospective JumpCloud candidates? Be prepared to fall in love with the product and become a champion yourself. Folks across the organization are really proud of what they’re accomplishing, whether it’s UI/UX updates or new features and enhancements, and it shows.
What book or movie have you recently read/seen and why would you recommend it? I recently finished a book of short stories by Thomas McGuane. His use of language is phenomenal and the stories stick with you after you read them.
What’s something you’re planning on doing in the next year that you’ve never done? I’m going to start working on my Level 1 and, maybe Level 2, Sommelier designation.

If you could only eat one item for every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Steak and wine.
Do you have any pets as in-house colleagues? Hogan (cattle dog mutt), Luna (aussie), and Rowdy (French brittany).
