People of JumpCloud | Libby Jarvis

People are the lifeblood of any organization, but so rarely do they receive the spotlight like the innovative applications and services, company missions, and devoted customer communities they work so hard to create. We want to change that.

At JumpCloud every individual makes a difference, and their work matters no matter what function they hold. This ongoing series aims to showcase the personalities and contributions of every JumpCloudian and share the spotlight with the people who work hard every day to help Make Work HappenTM.

Libby Jarvis (She/Her)
Directory Solutions Advisor
Charlotte, NC

We recently caught up with Libby Jarvis about what it’s like to work as a Directory Solutions Advisor at JumpCloud.

When did you start working at JumpCloud? November 2021.

Can you run us through a day in the life of your role at JumpCloud? I love my job because my day to day can change a lot, even though aspects of it remain the same. For example, some days I spend more time in meetings with potential customers, learning about their use case and determining if JumpCloud will be a good fit for their goals. Other days I spend most of my time helping answer questions through our website chat portal. I really enjoy meeting new people and building relationships – every phone call, email, chat message, or video meeting I get the chance to represent an awesome company and meet people interested in our product from all around the world. My team also works on routing inquiries to the appropriate folks internally, answering incoming calls and returning voicemails, providing prospects with helpful information and resources – like our weekly product demo – and reflecting our company values, as we are often the first employee a lot of prospects speak to. This barely scratches the surface of what a day in the life may entail, but that’s a good start!

How have you grown as an individual since starting at the company? One of the major ways I have grown since starting this role is an increased confidence in my abilities. Not every company has the same support from teammates, managers, supervisors, etc. like JumpCloud does. This role and company has given me the freedom and encouragement I needed to feel and know that I’m doing great work, and more importantly that my work impacts the bigger picture. I love seeing new deals come through via email and seeing my name as the DSA who set the initial introduction of our company up. My manager and supervisor are also two amazing individuals that are always complimenting my style of work, calling every DSA out for outstanding days, and hyping us up on company-wide meetings. The environment and team mentality from everyone I deal with on a day-to-day basis has really allowed me to excel because I feel confident in what I’m doing, and that truly makes all the difference. There is respect for everyone here and I really value that.

Pick a JumpCloud value (Build Connections, Think Big, 1% Better Every Day) and share an example of how you lived that value recently. My favorite JumpCloud value is probably 1% Better Every Day. This is a value I try to keep in mind personally, even before starting here, and I was happy to find out that the company values it too. Recently, I was reminded of this value when I was updating my list of goals. Anytime I do this I like to remember that not everything needs to be accomplished at once, to the point where I feel anxious or stressed. 1% Better Every Day allows me to realize that every little action in the right direction will add up over time, and that the baby steps are just as important as the big leaps that can sometimes cause me anxiety or burnout.

What is something that you have accomplished at JumpCloud that you are proud of? Making a name for myself in a company this size, especially with my job being remote. Everyone here is so kind and eager to help, but knowing the relationships I’ve made with colleagues are solely from how I communicate and work is pretty rewarding. I’ve made friendships I will take with me outside of just my work life. I’ve also been able to learn a lot from very smart and successful people and still have the ability to feel like I’m just having a conversation with a friend. It would be easy to lay low and just do my work and log off, but I’ve really enjoyed being able to network with people on all different teams within the company, and even be a go-to resource for when they have questions about operations on this side of things.

What keeps you energized about working at JumpCloud? The support from my team and the company as a whole and the paths this company provides for growth. I’m also pretty competitive, so each day is a bit of a game I play with myself to see how well I can do, and it never gets old. Lastly, I would say unlimited PTO! I love how the company encourages time off and gives us the freedom to be flexible when things come up. Mental health days are huge in order to prevent burnout, and JumpCloud gets it. Everyone really understands the work/life balance and encourages it, and I really appreciate that because it allows me to do my best work, and I want to give back to the company by doing my best work.

What do you like to do on your days off? I love to spend time with my friends and family. I also try to get outdoors as much as I can because it recharges me and makes me happy. You can find me at the gym, boxing, hiking, probably the grocery store (ha-ha), or either on the road or at the airport! I absolutely love to travel, and have friends and family all over the U.S. — JumpCloud supports that by making remote work happen.

What advice do you have for prospective JumpCloud candidates? I would say to be yourself! People at this company value authenticity, and somehow we all mesh even though we are all very different. JumpCloud promotes diversity in the workplace, which is vital because it brings in ideas and viewpoints from so many different perspectives. You never feel pressured to change who you are or what you think to fit in, because everyone truly appreciates all the ways that you are different. It’s a really cool dynamic and you can tell it’s deeper than the surface because you can actually feel it.

What book or movie have you recently read/seen and why would you recommend it? I’m rereading a favorite book of mine right now called Awareness by Anthony De Melo. I talk about this book at least once a day because of the values and lessons I’ve learned from it. It’s a great read overall — short, funny, captivating, and most importantly it’s around $10 on Amazon! But really, it’s a great guide to learn more about yourself and how you communicate with the world and interpret life. It helped me change my ways of thinking to be less egoistic and more loving, aware, present, and understanding. 10/10 recommend to a friend!

What’s something you’re planning on doing in the next year that you’ve never done? Learn Spanish! I have wanted to become fluent in Spanish for a while now but this is the year I plan to actually stick with it and follow through.

What is your 15 minutes of fame? I was in the “Impractical Jokers” movie back when I was in college and am in the closing scene with Joey Fatone. It was super random and I found out about the role the night before they filmed. I went and saw the film in theaters with my parents, and my dad was so excited that he screamed “There’s Libby!” and clapped loud enough for the entire theater to hear when I showed up on the big screen. My parents are truly my number one fans!

If you could only eat one item for every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? This one is tough! I’d like to say tofu because you can make it taste so different every time you cook it, but if I really had to choose I’d probably say pineapple. Nothing’s better than some sweet fruit in my opinion!

Do you have any pets as in-house colleagues? I wish! This answer might change in the near future, but as of now I’m still the employee of the month in my household, every month.
