People of JumpCloud | Kyle Kirkland

People are the lifeblood of any organization, but so rarely do they receive the spotlight like the innovative applications and services, company missions, and devoted customer communities they work so hard to create. We want to change that.

At JumpCloud every individual makes a difference, and their work matters no matter what function they hold. This ongoing series aims to showcase the personalities and contributions of every JumpCloudian and share the spotlight with the people who work hard every day to help Make Work HappenTM.

Kyle Kirkland (He/Him)
Escalations Engineer
Lafayette, CO

We recently caught up with Kyle Kirkland about what it’s like to work as an Escalations Engineer at JumpCloud where he is focused on Sustaining Development with a sharp focus on tactical issues that arise anywhere in the JumpCloud product or infrastructure, which impact our customers or internal teams.

When did you start working at JumpCloud? January 2020.

How did you first learn about JumpCloud? An internal referral.

Can you run us through a day in the life of your role at JumpCloud? Prior to my new (current) role, I was the Team Lead for Support Engineers in Hyderabad, India. Responsibilities included standard management tasks, assisting escalated customers, as well as standard support work for the U.S. Customer Success Engineer team. Now it’s a bit too early to say what my day-to-day will be like!

How have you grown as an individual since starting at the company? I’ve grown through working with some incredible teammates since day one. I’m surrounded by experienced professionals I’ve learned important skills from — time management, empathy, work ethic, and of course, many technical skills.

Pick a JumpCloud value (Build Connections, Think Big, 1% Better Every Day) and share an example of how you lived that value recently. Build Connections — a recent security issue with a customer led to the opportunity to collaborate with several departments in order to improve their security posture and practice. Working with others outside of my immediate group was a great learning experience.

What is something that you have accomplished at JumpCloud that you are proud of? I’m proud of my work with the Hyderabad Support team. With an approximately 12-hour time difference, communication could be difficult, but the group made incredible progress in both customer-facing and technical skills over the past year.

What keeps you energized about working at JumpCloud? Seeing how the company has responded to unparalleled growing pains has been inspiring.

What do you like to do on your days off? Playing soccer, making sourdough bread, and doing some homebrewing this winter!

What advice do you have for prospective JumpCloud candidates? Be ready to talk about how you embody JumpCloud’s core values.

What book or movie have you recently read/seen and why would you recommend it? The TV show “Ted Lasso.” Jason Sudeikis is a national treasure, and it’s a very well put together show. I’ve played soccer all my life and really enjoyed it for that, but plenty of friends who have no soccer background have liked it just as much!

What’s something you plan to do in the next year that you’ve never done? I’d like to travel to Eastern Europe.

What is your 15 minutes of fame? I recently sent a picture to my mom and it made it onto her fridge!

Do you have any pets as in-house colleagues? My sourdough starter, Bublé.
