{"id":90949,"date":"2023-06-26T13:59:31","date_gmt":"2023-06-26T17:59:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/?post_type=support&#038;p=90949"},"modified":"2024-09-05T10:37:59","modified_gmt":"2024-09-05T14:37:59","slug":"create-an-ios-apple-blocked-apps-policy","status":"publish","type":"support","link":"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/create-an-ios-apple-blocked-apps-policy","title":{"rendered":"Create an iOS Blocked Apps Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>JumpCloud provides two iOS policies to manage the software apps that appear on supervised iOS and iPadOS devices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These policies let you block Apple apps and third-party apps, which removes the app shortcuts from the device\u2019s home screen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Blocked Apple Apps Policy<\/strong> &#8211; Hide apps that are included by Apple by default on supervised iOS and iPadOS devices.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Blocked Custom Apps Policy<\/strong> &#8211; Hide custom or third-party apps on supervised iOS and iPadOS devices.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These iOS policies work on all JumpCloud<a href=\"https:\/\/support.jumpcloud.com\/support\/s\/article\/jumpcloud-agent-compatibility-system-requirements-and-impacts1#\"> <\/a>iOS and iPadOS supported operating systems on devices that are enrolled in MDM. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To create an iOS Blocked Apple Apps or Blocked Custom Apps Policy<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/login\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>DEVICE MANAGEMENT &gt; Policy Management<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>All<\/strong> tab, click (<strong>+<\/strong>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the New Policy panel, select the <strong>iOS <\/strong>tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the<strong> Blocked Apple Apps<\/strong> policy or the <strong>Blocked Custom Apps <\/strong>policy from the list, then click <strong>configure<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(Optional) Enter a new name for the policy or keep the default. Policy names must be unique.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For<strong> Policy Notes<\/strong>, enter details like when you created the policy, where you tested it, and where you deployed it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To configure the <strong>Blocked Apple Apps Policy<\/strong>, select the specific Apple apps you want to block on your supervised iOS devices. Any selected app from the list will be hidden from the user\u2019s home screens, and will not be launchable, even if they are searched for in the App Store. These apps are not removed from the device, as they are part of the operating system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To configure the <strong>Blocked Custom Apps Policy<\/strong>, click <strong>Add App Bundle ID<\/strong> and enter the app&#8217;s unique identifier on your iOS device to block that app on your supervised iOS devices. For example, to block the Contacts app, enter com.apple.MobileAddressBook. See this list of <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/guide\/deployment\/bundle-ids-for-native-iphone-and-ipad-apps-depece748c41\/web\">Bundle IDs for native iPhone and iPadOS apps<\/a>. Select one or more device groups where you&#8217;ll apply this policy. For device groups with multiple OS member types, the policy is applied only to the supported OS.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(Optional) Select the <strong>Devices<\/strong> tab. Select one or more devices where you&#8217;ll apply this policy.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card tip\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/tip-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Tip:<\/strong> \n<p>For this policy to take effect, you must specify a device or a device group.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"12\">\n<li>Click <strong>save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"locating-the-identifier-&amp;-identifier-type\">Locating the Bundle ID<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To use the Blocked Custom Apps Policy, you&#8217;ll need the Bundle ID for any non-native iOS and iPadOS apps you wish to add.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Note:<\/strong> \n<p>This process is applicable only to iOS and iPadOS applications. For macOS apps, see <a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/create-mac-application-privacy-preferences-policy#locating-the-identifier-&amp;-identifier-type\"><strong>Create a Mac Application Privacy Preferences Policy<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To locate the app Bundle ID:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>In your browser, go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/app-store\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Apple App Store<\/a>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the top right, click the search icon and search for the app. In the list of results, locate the app and select it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The App Store Preview page displays. Copy the <strong>id<\/strong> number at the end of the page URL. \n<ul>\n<li>For example, the URL for the JumpCloud Protect app is: <kbd>https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/jumpcloud-protect\/id1566884733<\/kbd>. The ID is <kbd><code>1566884733<\/code><\/kbd>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Perform a lookup using the following URL. Replace <kbd>PUT_ID_HERE<\/kbd> with the app ID collected in step 3: <kbd>https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/lookup?id=<strong>PUT_ID_HERE<\/strong><\/kbd>.\n<ul>\n<li>For example, the lookup URL for JumpCloud Protect is: <kbd>https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/lookup?id=1566884733<\/kbd>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the generated URL in your browser to download a <strong>.txt<\/strong> file to your device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the downloaded <strong>.txt<\/strong> file and search for the <code>bundleId<\/code>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copy the value without the quotes and paste it into the App Bundle ID field of the policy settings in the Admin Portal.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JumpCloud provides two iOS policies to manage the software apps that appear on supervised iOS and iPadOS devices.
