Automatically provision, update and deprovision users in GitHub Enterprise Cloud from JumpCloud using the Identity Management (SCIM) integration. Leverage this integration to allow users to login with with one set of credentials and to centralize user lifecycle and user identity in JumpCloud for GitHub Enterprise Cloud. Save time and cost related to user account and password management. Avoid mistakes, as well as potential security risks, related to manually creating users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read this article to learn how to setup the GitHub Enterprise Cloud integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prerequisites<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A JumpCloud administrator account<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>JumpCloud SSO Package or higher or SSO \u00e0 la carte option<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A team admin (administrator) account on a GitHub Enterprise with personal accounts plan\n<ul>\n<li>Enterprise with managed users is NOT supported<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your GitHub Enterprise Domain and ORG Name<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You need owner account access to the GitHub organization you&#8217;re integrating with SCIM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important Considerations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>SAML SSO must be configured and enabled at the organization level, not the enterprise level, to use SCIM<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To prevent account lockout,&nbsp;the owner account of your GitHub organization must have an associated JumpCloud user account and that user account must be bound to your&nbsp;JumpCloud GitHub SSO application<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Changes to user attributes made by JumpCloud are only reflected in the user&#8217;s SCIM metadata; they aren&#8217;t reflected in&nbsp;GitHub&#8217;s UI<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you delete an integrated GitHub application from your Applications list, the application is removed from JumpCloud, but any previously bound users remain active in GitHub. These users will be able log in to GitHub with the password they used prior to enablement of SSO to the GitHub application from your JumpCloud account<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you deactivate the Identity Management on your GitHub application, previously bound users remain active in GitHub and able to authenticate using SSO. No further updates will be made to user accounts via the Identity Management integration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you need to update your token, you must&nbsp;<a href=\"#to-deactivate-the-idm-integration\">deactivate the IdM integration<\/a>, update the token, and then reactivate the IdM integration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When users are provisioned, they aren\u2019t automatically added to the organization; an invitation is sent to users\u2019 email addresses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When a user is deprovisioned using SCIM, they\u2019re removed from the organization and their external identity and associated&nbsp;:scim_user_id&nbsp;are deleted<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>GitHub doesn\u2019t support password synchronization<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Groups are not supported<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"attribute-considerations\"><strong>Attribute Considerations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A default set of attributes are managed for users. See the&nbsp;<a href=\"#attribute-mappings\">Attribute Mappings<\/a>&nbsp;section for more details<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-creating-a-new-jumpcloud-application-integration\"><strong>Creating a new JumpCloud Application Integration<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to\u00a0<strong>USER AUTHENTICATION\u00a0<\/strong>&gt;\u00a0<strong>SSO<\/strong> <strong>Applications<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>+&nbsp;Add New Application<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type the name of the application in the <strong>Search <\/strong>field and select it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>Display Label<\/strong>, type your name for the application. Optionally, you can enter a <strong>Description<\/strong>, adjust the User Portal Image and choose to hide or <strong>Show in User Portal<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Note:<\/strong> \n<p>If this is a Bookmark Application, enter your sign-in URL in the <strong>Bookmark URL<\/strong> field.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li>Optionally, expand <strong>Advanced Settings<\/strong> to specify a value for the<strong> SSO IdP URL<\/strong>. If no value is entered, it will default to <kbd>https:\/\/sso.jumpcloud.com\/saml2\/&lt;applicationname&gt;<\/kbd>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card warning\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/warning-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Warning:<\/strong> \n<p>The <strong>SSO IdP URL<\/strong> is not editable after the application is created. You will have to delete and recreate the connector if you need to edit this field at a later time.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li>Click <strong>Save Application<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If successful, click:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Configure Application<\/strong> and go to the next section <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Close<\/strong> to configure your new application at a later time <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Configuring the SSO Integration<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"configure-the-jumpcloud-sso-application\"><strong>To configure JumpCloud<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"#creating-a-new-jumpcloud-application-integration\">Create a new application<\/a>&nbsp;or select it from the&nbsp;<strong>Configured Application<\/strong>s list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the&nbsp;<strong>SSO<\/strong>&nbsp;tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Replace any instances of YOURDOMAIN or YOUR_GITHUB_ORG_NAME with your GitHub values.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add any additional attributes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Download the certificate<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Find&nbsp;your application in the&nbsp;<strong>Configured Applications<\/strong>&nbsp;list and click anywhere in the row to reopen its configuration window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the <strong>SSO <\/strong>tab and click <strong>IDP Certificate Valid &gt; Download certificate<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card tip\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/tip-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Tip:<\/strong> \n<p>The certificate.pem will download to your local <strong>Downloads<\/strong> folder.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"configure-the-service-provider\"><strong>To configure GitHub Enterprise Cloud<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Login to GitHub Enterprise Cloud &#8211; Organization as the administrator of the GitHub organization.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the next screen, select&nbsp;<strong>Edit [GitHub Organization Name] settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Navigate to <strong>Security<\/strong> &gt;&nbsp;<strong>SAML single sign-on<\/strong>&nbsp;and enter the following information:\n<ul>\n<li>Select <strong>Enable SAML authentication<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sign on URL<\/strong> &#8211; copy and paste the JumpCloud <strong>IDP URL<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Issuer<\/strong> &#8211; copy and paste the JumpCloud <strong>IdP Entity ID<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Public Certificate<\/strong> &#8211; copy and paste the contents of the certificate you downloaded in the previous section<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"authorizing-user-sso-access\"><strong>Authorizing User SSO Access<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Users are implicitly denied access to applications. After you connect an application to JumpCloud, you need to authorize user access to that application. You can authorize user access from the <strong>Application Configuration<\/strong> panel or from the <strong>Groups Configuration<\/strong> panel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To authorize user access from the Application Configuration panel<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>USER AUTHENTICATION &gt; SSO<\/strong> <strong>Applications<\/strong>, then select the application to which you want to authorize user access.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the <strong>User Groups<\/strong> tab. If you need to create a new group of users, see <a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/get-started-user-groups\">Get Started: User Groups<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the check box next to the group of users you want to give access.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>save<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>To learn how to authorize user access from the&nbsp;<strong>Groups Configuration<\/strong>&nbsp;panel, see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/authorize-users-to-an-sso-application#user-groups-configuration-panel\">Authorize Users to an SSO Application<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"validating-sso-authentication-workflows\"><strong>Validating SSO user authentication workflow(s)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-idp-initiated-user-workflow\"><strong>IdP-initiated<\/strong> <strong>user workflow<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Access the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/userconsole#\/\">JumpCloud User Console<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to\u00a0<strong>Applications<\/strong> and click an application tile to launch it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>JumpCloud asserts the user&#8217;s identity to the SP and is authenticated without the user having to log in to the application<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sp-initiated-user-workflow\"><strong>SP-initiated<\/strong> <strong>user workflow<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Go\u00a0to the SP application login &#8211; generally, there is either a special link or an adaptive username field that detects the user is authenticated through SSO<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Note:<\/strong> \n<p>This varies by SP.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Login redirects the user to JumpCloud where the user enters their JumpCloud credentials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After the user is logged in successfully, they are redirected\u00a0back to the SP and automatically logged in<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Using JIT Provisioning<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional attributes are required to use JIT provisioning. JIT required attributes are prepopulated and are on by default to enable JIT provisioning. You can\u2019t edit the JIT required service provider attributes. You can customize the JumpCloud attribute name and the constant value for JIT required attributes. Toggle off the attributes to opt out of sending the attributes in the SAML assertion<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To complete the provisioning process<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Authorize a user\u2019s access to the application in JumpCloud. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have the user log in to the application using SSO. The SAML assertion passes from JumpCloud to the service provider, and gives the service provider the information it needs to create the user account.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Configuring the Identity Management Integration<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"configure-the-service-provider\"><strong>To configure GitHub Enterprise Cloud<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Login to GitHub Enterprise Cloud &#8211; Organization as the administrator of the GitHub organization.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the next screen, select&nbsp;<strong>Edit [GitHub Organization Name] settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Navigate to <strong>Organizations<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Applications<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>Select <strong>Authorized OAuth Apps.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under <strong>Organization access<\/strong>, click <strong>Grant<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A green checkmark shows to the right of JumpCloud under Organization access.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-to-configure-jumpcloud\"><strong>To configure JumpCloud<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card important\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/important-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Important:<\/strong> \n<p>For the integration to succeed, you need to have an open and active GitHub session in another browser tab. Otherwise the integration will fail at step 6.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to&nbsp;<strong>USER AUTHENTICATION<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>SSO<\/strong> <strong>Applications<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Search for GitHub Enterprise Cloud and select it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the&nbsp;<strong>Identity Management&nbsp;<\/strong>tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Configure<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You&#8217;re prompted to authorize JumpCloud to your GitHub organization. First, click&nbsp;<strong>Grant<\/strong>&nbsp;to give access to your GitHub organization, then click&nbsp;<strong>Authorize JumpCloud<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You&#8217;re redirected to JumpCloud and receive a confirmation of a successful integration.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"attribute-mappings\"><strong>Attribute Mappings<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following table lists attributes that JumpCloud sends to the application.
