Automatically provision, update and deprovision users and groups in 1Password from JumpCloud using the Identity Management (SCIM) integration. Leverage this integration to centralize user lifecycle, user identity, and group management in JumpCloud for 1Password. Save time and avoid mistakes, as well as potential security risks, related to manually creating users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read this article to learn how to setup the 1Password integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prerequisites<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A JumpCloud Administrator account<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>JumpCloud SSO Package or higher or SSO \u00e0 la carte option<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 1Password <a href=\"https:\/\/1password.com\/business-pricing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Business<\/a> subscription or higher<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A user account with Administrative access or higher<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your 1Password domain and <a href=\"https:\/\/support.1password.com\/sign-in-troubleshooting\/#if-youre-asked-for-a-sign-in-address\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sign-in address<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A DNS record to allow for encrypted (HTTPS) communication to the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.1password.com\/scim\/#step-1-set-up-and-deploy-1password-scim-bridge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1Password SCIM bridge<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A deployment environment with:\n<ul>\n<li>A publicly accessible static IP address<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access to port 443 and 80 to enable LetsEncrypt or a gateway with TLS termination<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Docker or Kubernetes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>128 MB of RAM and 100 MB of available storage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The 1Password SCIM integration requires users to set up a <a href=\"https:\/\/support.1password.com\/scim\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SCIM bridge<\/a> server in your own environment to act as a connector between JumpCloud and 1Password. This ensures&nbsp;the encryption keys for your account are secure and only accessible to you<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important Considerations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>1Password now supports <a href=\"https:\/\/support.1password.com\/sso\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Unlock with SSO<\/a>:\n<ul>\n<li>At this time, JumpCloud does not have a prebuilt SSO connector for 1Password<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unlock with SSO is only available using the OpenID Connect (OIDC) protocol<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have an existing SCIM connector and want to also use SSO, you must create a separate custom OIDC connector<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unlock with SSO will only work with 1Password 8 &#8211; you can\u2019t sign in to 1Password 7 with SSO<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you delete an integrated 1Password application from your Applications list, the application is removed from JumpCloud, but any previously bound users remain active in 1Password&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you deactivate the Identity Management on your 1Password application, previously bound users remain active in 1Password. No further updates will be made to user accounts via the Identity Management integration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When a new user is provisioned using SCIM, an email is sent to the user allowing them to join the account and create their master password\n<ul>\n<li>Their status will appear as&nbsp;<strong>Invited<\/strong>&nbsp;until they join<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you need to update the SCIM token, you must <a href=\"#to-deactivate-the-idm-integration\">deactivate the IdM integration<\/a>, update the token, and then reactivate the integration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To deactivate users, 1Password will either remove an&nbsp;<strong>Invited<\/strong>&nbsp;user, or mark an&nbsp;<strong>Active<\/strong>&nbsp;user as&nbsp;<strong>Suspended<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1Password doesn\u2019t support Sync Password functionality<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Group syncing is supported<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"attribute-considerations\"><strong>Attribute Considerations<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A default set of attributes are managed for users. See the&nbsp;<a href=\"#attribute-mappings\">Attribute Mappings<\/a>&nbsp;section for more details.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the <kbd>first name<\/kbd> or <kbd>last name<\/kbd> is updated in JumpCloud, it will update in 1Password too.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Email addresses in your 1Password account must be identical to those in your identity provider.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><kbd>Display Name<\/kbd> in 1Password will be created with the pattern: &#8220;<kbd>firstname lastname<\/kbd>&#8221; from the values provided in JumpCloud. The same will happen with the name.formatted SCIM attribute<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <kbd>externalId <\/kbd>attribute in 1Password will correspond to the first part of the email. For example: <kbd>email=john.doe@jumpcloud.com<\/kbd>&nbsp;=&gt; <kbd>externalId=john.doe<\/kbd><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Configuring the SSO Integration<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To create a new custom OIDC application<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Navigate to&nbsp;<strong>USER AUTHENTICATION&nbsp;<\/strong>&gt;&nbsp;<strong>SSO<\/strong> <strong>Applications<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>+&nbsp;Add New Application<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the the <strong>Custom Application<\/strong> tile, click <strong>Select<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Verify your selection by clicking <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Manage Single Sign-On (SSO)<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Configure SSO with OIDC<\/strong> and then click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the&nbsp;<strong>Display Label<\/strong>, type <kbd>1Password<\/kbd>  for the application. Optionally, you can enter a&nbsp;<strong>Description<\/strong>, adjust the <strong>User Portal<\/strong> <strong>Image <\/strong>and choose to hide or&nbsp;<strong>Show in User Portal<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Save Application<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If successful, click&nbsp;<strong>Close&nbsp;<\/strong>or&nbsp;<strong>Configure Application<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To configure JumpCloud<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"#to-create-a-new-custom-oidc-application\">Create a new custom OIDC application<\/a>&nbsp;or select it from the&nbsp;<strong>Configured Application<\/strong>s list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the&nbsp;<strong>SSO<\/strong>&nbsp;tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the following information:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Redirect URIs<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Copy and paste&nbsp;<kbd>https:\/\/YOUR_DOMAIN.1password.com\/sso\/oidc\/redirect\/<\/kbd>, then change the domain placeholder to your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.1password.com\/sign-in-troubleshooting\/#if-youre-asked-for-a-sign-in-address\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sign-in address<\/a>. If your 1Password account is in a different&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.1password.com\/regions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">region<\/a>, change .com to .ca or .eu accordingly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copy and paste&nbsp;<kbd>onepassword:\/\/sso\/oidc\/redirect<\/kbd>. After you connect an application to JumpCloud, you need to authorize user access to that application. You can authorize user access from the <strong>Application Configuration<\/strong> panel or from the <strong>Groups Configuration<\/strong> panel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To authorize user access from the Application Configuration panel<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>USER AUTHENTICATION &gt; SSO<\/strong> <strong>Applications<\/strong>, then select the application to which you want to authorize user access.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the <strong>User Groups<\/strong> tab. If you need to create a new group of users, see <a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/get-started-user-groups\">Get Started: User Groups<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the check box next to the group of users you want to give access.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>save<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>To learn how to authorize user access from the&nbsp;<strong>Groups Configuration<\/strong>&nbsp;panel, see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/authorize-users-to-an-sso-application#user-groups-configuration-panel\">Authorize Users to an SSO Application<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To configure 1Password<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Open a new browser tab or window and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/start.1password.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sign in<\/a>&nbsp;to your account on 1Password.com.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Policies<\/strong>&nbsp;in the sidebar, then choose&nbsp;<strong>Unlock 1Password with Identity Provider<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose&nbsp;<strong>Other<\/strong>&nbsp;from the list of identity providers and click&nbsp;<strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select&nbsp;<strong>JumpCloud<\/strong>&nbsp;from list and enter the following information:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Client ID<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; paste the Client ID copied in the previous section<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Well-known URL<\/strong> &#8211; paste <kbd>https:\/\/oauth.id.jumpcloud.com\/.well-known\/openid-configuration<\/kbd><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Next<\/strong>&nbsp;and test the connection. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You\u2019ll be directed to JumpCloud to sign in, then returned to 1Password. This verifies connectivity between 1Password and JumpCloud.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Create SSO groups<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>After you configure Unlock with SSO, you\u2019ll be redirected to the&nbsp;<strong>Settings <\/strong>page&nbsp;in your 1Password account. Before you configure your settings, you\u2019ll need to create groups for the team members who will unlock 1Password with JumpCloud:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.1password.com\/custom-groups\/#create-a-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Create a custom group<\/a>. Give the group a descriptive name, like &#8220;JumpCloud SSO&#8221;, for clarity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.1password.com\/custom-groups\/#manage-group-membership\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Add team members to the group<\/a>. If you plan to invite additional team members to test Unlock with JumpCloud at a later date, create a&nbsp;<em>new<\/em>&nbsp;custom group for each additional set of testers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The group(s) you create don\u2019t have to be permanent, and you can eventually set your whole team to unlock with SSO once some groups have successfully migrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Choose who will unlock with JumpCloud<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card warning\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/warning-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Warning:<\/strong> \n<p>Users in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.1password.com\/groups\/#owners\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Owners<\/a>&nbsp;group can\u2019t unlock with JumpCloud and will continue to sign in to 1Password using their account password and Secret Key. This helps safeguard them from being locked out in the event that they can\u2019t access their trusted devices and no one can recover them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn more about&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.1password.com\/team-recovery-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">implementing a recovery plan for your team<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>By default, \u201cPeople unlocking 1Password with an identity provider\u201d is set to \u201cNo one\u201d. This allows you to gradually migrate your team to unlock with JumpCloud. To specify which team members will unlock 1Password with JumpCloud, select one of the options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>No one<\/strong>: To turn off Unlock with JumpCloud, select&nbsp;<strong>No one<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Selected groups (recommended)<\/strong>: Only the team members in groups you choose will sign in with JumpCloud. Learn how to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.1password.com\/custom-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">use custom groups in 1Password Business<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Everyone except guests<\/strong>: All team members, except owners and guests, will sign in with JumpCloud. All existing users will be prompted to switch to Unlock with JumpCloud, and all new users will use their JumpCloud username and password when joining 1Password. Guests and owners will sign in with an account password and Secret Key.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Everyone (not recommended)<\/strong>: Guests and all team members, except owners, will sign in with JumpCloud. All existing users will be prompted to switch to Unlock with JumpCloud, and all new users will use their JumpCloud username and password when joining 1Password.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"32-set-a-grace-period\"><strong>Set a grace period<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/support.1password.com\/sso-configure-jumpcloud\/#32-set-a-grace-period\"><\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Team members who already have 1Password accounts will need to switch to unlock with JumpCloud. Specify the number of days before team members must switch. Consider the following when you set the grace period:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>By default, the grace period is set to 5 days. It can be set to 1 to 30 days.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The grace period begins when an administrator adds a group after they choose the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.1password.com\/sso-configure-jumpcloud\/#31-choose-who-will-unlock-with-jumpcloud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Selected groups<\/a>\u00a0option or when an administrator configures Unlock with JumpCloud for everyone on the team. You\u2019ll see the grace period listed next to each group configured to unlock with JumpCloud.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a team member belongs to more than one group, their grace period is determined by the first group set up with SSO, even if the grace periods are different for those groups.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you add a user to a group with an expired grace period, you or another administrator will need to recover their account so they can set up unlock with SSO.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you edit the length of the grace period, it will be prolonged or shortened from the original configuration date. The grace period count doesn\u2019t reset to zero when updated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you plan to have more team members unlock with JumpCloud after initial configuration, it\u2019s best to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.1password.com\/custom-groups\/#create-a-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">create a new custom group<\/a>\u00a0with its own grace period. This will make sure newly assigned team members won\u2019t need their accounts recovered.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card warning\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/warning-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Warning:<\/strong> \n<p>If a team member doesn\u2019t migrate to Unlock with JumpCloud before the end of the grace period, they\u2019ll be signed out of all their devices and must contact an administrator to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.1password.com\/recovery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recover their account<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Configuring the Identity Management Integration<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Creating a new JumpCloud Application Integration<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Navigate to&nbsp;<strong>USER AUTHENTICATION&nbsp;<\/strong>&gt;&nbsp;<strong>SSO<\/strong> <strong>Applications<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>+&nbsp;Add New Application<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type the name of the application in the <strong>Search <\/strong>field and select it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>Display Label<\/strong>, type your name for the application. matches the name of the group in the application<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All user groups associated with the application in JumpCloud are synced. Syncing occurs whenever there is a membership or group change event<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Group renaming is supported<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a user group is disassociated from the application in JumpCloud, syncing immediately stops and the group is left as-is in the application.
