If you don\u2019t see a connector for an application that your organization uses, you can connect it to JumpCloud with the custom SAML 2.0 Connector. Also known as the Custom SAML App, this connector can be used with any application that supports SAML-based SSO. Be aware that you need in-depth knowledge of the Service Provider\u2019s (SP) SAML compatibility and requirements to use the SAML 2.0 connector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read this article to learn how to configure the Custom SAML 2.0 Application Connector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card tip\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/tip-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Tip:<\/strong> \n<p>Read the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/saml-configuration-notes\">SAML Configuration Notes<\/a>&nbsp;before you start configuring this&nbsp;connector.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<strong>Prerequisites<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A JumpCloud administrator account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>JumpCloud SSO Package or higher or SSO add-on feature.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An account with appropriate permissions to set up SAML in the SP.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A public certificate and private key pair are required to successfully connect applications with JumpCloud. After you activate an application, we automatically generate a public certificate and private key pair for you. You can use this pair or upload your own.\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/generate-public-certificates-and-private-keys\">Learn how to manage certificates and private keys<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/generate-public-certificates-and-private-keys\">Learn how to generate a public certificate and private key pair<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Service providers can differ in their behavior, especially when it comes to existing user accounts. Make sure you understand all of the steps you need to take on the SP side for SSO and JIT provisioning.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Configuring the Custom SAML 2.0 Connector<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To gather information from the Service Provider (SP)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Find out if <strong>metadata <\/strong>is available from the SP. If metadata is available, download it so that you can use it to configure the connector in JumpCloud.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Determine the attributes that are required for SAML\/SSO.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the SP requires it, enable SAML functionality.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep the SP information handy when you start configuring the SSO connector in JumpCloud.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To configure JumpCloud<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to&nbsp;<strong>User Authentication&nbsp;<\/strong>&gt;<strong>&nbsp;SSO<\/strong> <strong>Applications<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>+&nbsp;Add New Application<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Click <strong>Select <\/strong>on the <strong>Custom Application&nbsp;<\/strong>tile, OR<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Search for <strong>Custom SAML App<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Next. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Note:<\/strong> \n<p>If you search for and select <strong>Custom SAML app<\/strong>, SSO features are pre-selected.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>Select <strong>Manage Single Sign-On (SSO)<\/strong>, select either the <strong>Configure SSO with SAML<\/strong> or <strong>Configure SSO with OIDC<\/strong> radio button and click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the&nbsp;<strong>Display Label<\/strong>, type a name for the application. This is the name that will be shown to users in the User Portal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optionally, you can enter a&nbsp;<strong>Description<\/strong>, adjust the <strong>User Portal Image<\/strong> and choose to hide or&nbsp;<strong>Show this application in User Portal<\/strong>. Under <strong>Advanced Settings<\/strong>, you can specify a value for the<strong>&nbsp;SSO IdP URL<\/strong>. If no value is entered, it will default to&nbsp;<kbd>https:\/\/sso.jumpcloud.com\/saml2\/&lt;applicationname&gt;<\/kbd>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card warning\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/warning-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Warning:<\/strong> \n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>SSO IdP URL<\/strong>&nbsp;is not editable after the application is created. You will have to delete and recreate the connector if you need to edit this field at a later time.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li>Click <strong>Save Application<\/strong> and then <strong>Configure Application<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can populate required connector fields for a custom SAML application by:\n<ul>\n<li>Clicking&nbsp;the <strong>Upload Metadata<\/strong>&nbsp;button &#8211; browse to and upload the SP metadata file. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Manually populating connector field data. See&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.jumpcloud.com\/support\/s\/article\/SSO-Application-Connector-Fields\">SSO Application Fields<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add any additional <strong>ACS URLs<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Replace SP Certificate<\/strong>, if necessary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By default, the&nbsp;<strong>SAMLSubject\u2019s NameID<\/strong>&nbsp;is <kbd>email<\/kbd>, but can be changed&nbsp;to any of the attributes in the dropdown list, including a custom attribute.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card important\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/important-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Important:<\/strong> \n<p>Only change this value if the SP requires a <kbd>NameID<\/kbd> other than <kbd>email<\/kbd>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"13\">\n<li><strong>SAMLSubject NameID Format&nbsp;<\/strong>is the format that will be sent for the SAMLSubject&#8217;s NameID. Select any of the values in the dropdown list.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card important\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/important-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Important:<\/strong> \n<p>Only change this value if the SP requires a specific <kbd>NameID<\/kbd> format.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"14\">\n<li>The <strong>Signature Algorithm<\/strong> by default is <kbd>RSA-SHA256<\/kbd>. If necessary, it can be changed to <kbd>RSA-SHA<\/kbd>1.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By default, SAML Authentication Responses are signed. You may add additional security by choosing to sign SAML Authentication Assertions or both SAML Authentication Responses and Assertions. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optionally, you can add a <strong>Default Relay State<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For SP-initiated only authentication, you must add a <strong>Login URL<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optionally, select <strong>Declare Redirect Endpoint<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add any additional&nbsp;<strong>User<\/strong>, <strong>Constant<\/strong>, or <strong>Group <\/strong>Attributes that are required for SAML\/SSO. If you\u2019d like, you can add more than what is required, but make sure the SP supports them.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>save <\/strong>to update the connector. After the application is activated, a public certificate and private key pair are generated for the application.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Download the certificate if you need to upload it to the SP.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the application and click&nbsp;<strong>Export Metadata<\/strong> or <strong>Copy Metadata URL<\/strong> if the SP needs metadata to complete setup.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To configure the SP<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Create the JumpCloud application in the SP.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Upload JumpCloud\u2019s metadata file to the SP. This populates the SAML attributes in the SP.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Follow the SP\u2019s requirements for certificate uploads.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Save the SP configuration settings.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Configuring JIT Provisioning<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Important Considerations<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Not all SPs support JIT provisioning.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Determine if JIT provisioning is inherently enabled in the SP or if you need to manually enable it.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Understand what attributes are required from the SP for JIT provisioning. You can find this information in the SP\u2019s documentation or by reaching out to the SP\u2019s customer success team.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To use JIT provisioning with the SAML 2.0 Connector<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#to-configure-jumpcloud\">Create a new application<\/a>&nbsp;or select your Custom SAML app from the&nbsp;<strong>Configured Application<\/strong>s list.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Note:<\/strong> \n<p>If you select to configure a new application, follow the instructions in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/SSO-Application-Connector-Fields\">SSO Application Connector Fields<\/a>&nbsp;first.&nbsp;<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Configure the required JIT attributes in JumpCloud.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>save<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Group Attributes&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Groups that connect the user to the application are included in assertions to that application. The&nbsp;<strong>Groups Attribute Name<\/strong>&nbsp;is the SP&#8217;s name of the group attribute (e.g. memberOf).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the Group Attribute option is selected and the field is pre-populated with the group attribute name, that means we\u2019ve validated that the group attribute is supported by the SP. If the group attribute option isn\u2019t selected and the&nbsp;<strong>Group Attribute Name<\/strong>&nbsp;field is empty, you will&nbsp;need to contact your SP if group attributes are supported.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Note:<\/strong> \n<p>When you select the group attribute option for a connector, you must include a&nbsp;<strong>Groups Attribute Name<\/strong>.
