Instead, you can use Device Enrollment to download, distribute, and install your organization\u2019s JumpCloud MDM enrollment profile. Enrollment profiles aren&#8217;t device-specific, and you can download the profile from the MDM tab in the JumpCloud Admin Portal. The disadvantage of enrolling devices with this method is that the process can be time-intensive and might require physical access to the machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prerequisites<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Device Enrollment is only appropriate for devices running macOS 11.0 (Big Sur) or newer that aren&#8217;t enrolled via Automated Device Enrollment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MDM has to be configured for your org. See\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/set-up-apple-mdm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Set Up Apple MDM<\/a> to learn more.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>End-user network connectivity has to be available for device provisioning.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Considerations<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Apple&#8217;s Stolen Device Protection, when activated, prevents new MDM enrollments of any kind as a preventative measure. Deactivate the feature temporarily to allow users to enroll in MDM. You can turn Stolen Device Protection back on after the device has been enrolled. See Apple&#8217;s support documentation, <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/guide\/iphone\/use-stolen-device-protection-iph17105538b\/ios\">Use Stolen Device Protection<\/a> to learn more. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-adding-macos-devices-to-mdm\"><a><\/a>Adding MacOS Devices to MDM<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow this process to use Device Enrollment to enroll a company-owned macOS device in MDM:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>(IT Admin) Download your org&#8217;s MDM enrollment profile: This gives you an enrollment profile that you&#8217;ll use to enroll devices.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(IT Admin) Distribute the enrollment profile: This delivers the profile to your end users.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(End User) Install the enrollment profile: This installs the JumpCloud agent and service account on the device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(IT Admin) Bind the device to the user in the JumpCloud Admin Portal:\u00a0This allows the user that&#8217;s bound to the device to be managed in JumpCloud.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-downloading-your-org-s-mdm-enrollment-profile\">Downloading your org&#8217;s MDM enrollment profile<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/login\/admin\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to<strong>&nbsp;DEVICE MANAGEMENT<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>MDM<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under\u00a0<strong>MDM Configuration<\/strong>, click\u00a0<strong>download profile<\/strong>. The MDM enrollment profile doesn&#8217;t expire once it&#8217;s downloaded.\n<ul>\n<li>You can download the enrollment profile directly to each device or download the file and distribute it to multiple devices (via email or Slack).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After you download the enrollment profile, you\u2019ll distribute and install it on the devices you want to manage.\n<ul>\n<li>Installing the enrollment profile also installs the JumpCloud agent.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-distributing-the-enrollment-profile\">Distributing the enrollment profile<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Distribute (either through email, Slack, or a physical transfer) the enrollment profile file to each user. The method depends on whether you have the device in hand (QR code) or not (enrollment profile):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><strong>QR code<\/strong>: Scan the QR code in the Admin Portal and set up the device before handing it to the employee.\n<ul>\n<li>If you don&#8217;t have access to the company-owned device, you can also email the Direct Link to the QR code to the user to scan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enrollment profile<\/strong>: Download and distribute your org\u2019s JumpCloud MDM enrollment profile, and have the user install the profile on the device.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-enrolling-via-qr-code\">Enrolling via QR code<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Have the iOS device handy because you\u2019ll scan a QR code and set the device up before handing it over to the employee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/login\/admin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to&nbsp;<strong>DEVICE MANAGEMENT<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>MDM<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under<strong> iOS Enrollment &gt; Company-owned Device Enrollment<\/strong>, click&nbsp;<strong>View QR Code<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card tip\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/tip-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Tip:<\/strong> \n<p>You can also perform these actions by going to\u00a0<strong>DEVICE MANAGEMENT<\/strong>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<strong>Devices<\/strong>, clicking\u00a0<strong>Devices<\/strong>, selecting (\u00a0<strong>+<\/strong> <strong>Device<\/strong>\u00a0) to add a new device, and selecting\u00a0<strong>iOS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Follow the steps to scan the QR code, download the MDM enrollment profile, and install it on the device.\n<ul>\n<li>If for some reason the QR code does not scan, click&nbsp;<strong>Direct Link<\/strong>&nbsp;to enroll the device.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card tip\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/tip-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Tip:<\/strong> \n<p>You can only install one profile at a time. For example, if you download a profile and don&#8217;t install it, and then download a second profile, only the second profile is valid.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don&#8217;t have access to the company-owned iOS device, you can also email the Direct Link for the QR code to the user to scan and install.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>View the enrolled device by going to<strong>&nbsp;DEVICE MANAGEMENT<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>Devices<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the device you just enrolled and select\u00a0<strong>Insights\u00a0<\/strong>to view more info, such as OS version, serial number, MDM Device ID, and storage usage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(Optional) If you want to enforce lock timers and PIN codes, you can create and apply a policy. See\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/configure-settings-for-ios-policies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Configure Settings for iOS and iPadOS Policies<\/a> to learn more.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deliver the enrolled device to the user.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-enrolling-via-enrollment-profile\">Enrolling via enrollment profile<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If a company-owned iOS device was not added to your ABM or ASM account, you can\u2019t use Apple\u2019s Automated Device Enrollment. You can instead download and distribute your organization\u2019s JumpCloud MDM enrollment profile, and have users install it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Download your org&#8217;s enrollment profile.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/login\/admin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to&nbsp;<strong>DEVICE MANAGEMENT<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>MDM<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under<strong> iOS Enrollment &gt; Company-owned Device Enrollment<\/strong>, click&nbsp;<strong>View QR Code<\/strong>, then click&nbsp;<strong>Direct Link<\/strong>&nbsp;below the QR code to download the iOS MDM enrollment profile. The iOS MDM enrollment profile expires after 1 hour.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Distribute the enrollment profile file to each user.
