It also covers an optional configuration for SMB Service, for IT admins who want users&nbsp;to authenticate to SMB file shares that are set up on the TrueNAS appliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prerequisites<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Cloud LDAP is configured correctly in JumpCloud. See <a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/use-cloud-ldap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Use Cloud LDAP<\/a> to learn more.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>LDAP users and\/or user groups are configured in JumpCloud. See <a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/create-an-ldap-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Create an LDAP Group<\/a> to learn more.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The steps in Configuring LDAP in TrueNAS must be followed before starting an SMB configuration, though SMB configuration is&nbsp;<strong>NOT&nbsp;<\/strong>required in order to set up LDAP on TrueNAS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Configuration Notes<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Reference the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truenas.com\/docs\/core\/system\/support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">TrueNAS Support Site<\/a> during configuration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This process was last qualified on 03\/17\/2022 using TrueNAS Core 12.0-U8.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Users from the LDAP connection do not seem to show up in the TrueNAS GUI. Be aware that LDAP users and groups appear in the dropdown menus of the Permissions screen of a dataset after configuring the LDAP service. See the TrueNAS documentation for further details.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SSH access is limited to local users only by default.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once configured, you may have to click&nbsp;<strong>Rebuild Directory Service Cache<\/strong>&nbsp;(see image below) for users to be imported from LDAP, or for any updates to the JumpCloud Samba User Group to propagate to TrueNAS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Configuring LDAP in TrueNAS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Note:<\/strong> \n<p>To find the information for step 3, see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/use-cloud-ldap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Use Cloud LDAP<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To configure LDAP in TrueNAS<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the TrueNAS Administrator Dashboard.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to&nbsp;<strong>Directory Services<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>LDAP<\/strong>.<br><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"433\" class=\"wp-image-86591\" style=\"width: 500px\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/truenas-server-credentials.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/truenas-server-credentials.png 1200w, https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/truenas-server-credentials-300x108.png 300w, https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/truenas-server-credentials-1024x369.png 1024w, https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/truenas-server-credentials-768x277.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide the following information:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hostname<\/strong>:&nbsp;ldap.jumpcloud.com<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Base DN<\/strong>: o=YOUR_ORG_ID,dc=jumpcloud,dc=com<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bind DN<\/strong>: uid=LDAP_BINDING_USER,ou=Users,o=YOUR_ORG_ID,dc=jumpcloud,dc=com<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bind Password<\/strong>: LDAP_BINDING_USER_PASSWORD<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enable<\/strong>: Checked<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Configuring START_TLS LDAP Settings in TrueNAS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To configure advanced LDAP settings in TrueNAS<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the TrueNAS Administrator Dashboard.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to&nbsp;<strong>Directory Services<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>LDAP<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Advanced Options<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select&nbsp;<strong>START_TLS<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong>Encryption Mode<\/strong>&nbsp;dropdown.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check the&nbsp;<strong>Samba Schema<\/strong>&nbsp;option.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>SAVE&nbsp;<\/strong>to complete the advanced configuration.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Configuring TrueNAS for SMB Service<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>This is an optional configuration, but if you plan to implement SMB Service, LDAP must be configured in TrueNAS first.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Samba must be enabled for LDAP. See&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/configure-samba-support-to-use-cloud-ldap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Configure Samba Support with LDAP<\/a>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Read and understand the SMB options available for the TrueNAS Core in their&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.truenas.com\/docs\/core\/directoryservices\/ldap\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">knowledge base<\/a>.
