In addition to allowing you to install updates on all your org\u2019s devices, JumpCloud also allows you to update, or even force to update, a single macOS device in your org from the Admin Portal. You can choose the timeframe during which the update will install on the device and choose how much flexibility the user has in delaying or canceling the update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prerequisites&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The device must be running macOS 11 or later (11.5 and later to support major upgrades between versions).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The device must be enrolled in JumpCloud MDM.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To schedule a software update for a macOS device enrolled in JumpCloud MDM:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to your JumpCloud Admin Portal:&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to<strong>&nbsp;DEVICE MANAGEMENT<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>Devices<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the device to that you want to schedule an update for.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select\u00a0the <strong>MDM<\/strong> tab.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"907\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/ScheduleUpdates-907x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-107739\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/ScheduleUpdates-907x1024.png 907w, https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/ScheduleUpdates-266x300.png 266w, https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/ScheduleUpdates-768x867.png 768w, https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/ScheduleUpdates-1360x1536.png 1360w, https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/ScheduleUpdates.png 1548w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 907px) 100vw, 907px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>Under&nbsp;<strong>OS Updates<\/strong>, select the OS version you wish to install.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under&nbsp;<strong>Installation Schedule<\/strong>, select when you want your users to install the minor OS update. The options are:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Install Later Today<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; The system will download the update and install it at a system-determined time while the user is inactive. The user will receive a system notification indicating that their admin has requested an OS Update that will occur later in the day.<br><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"344\" height=\"74\" class=\"wp-image-84958\" style=\"width: 344px\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/mac_updates_requested_toast.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/mac_updates_requested_toast.png 344w, https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/mac_updates_requested_toast-300x65.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 344px) 100vw, 344px\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Install ASAP&nbsp;<\/strong>&#8211; The system will download and install the update as soon as the device acknowledges the command. The user will receive a system notification indicating that their admin has requested an OS update that will begin in 60 seconds. The user&nbsp;<strong>can&nbsp;<\/strong>cancel this update and will not be prompted again. In addition, the operating system will&nbsp;<strong>not&nbsp;<\/strong>interrupt any applications that are actively being used. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Install Now (Force Update)<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; The system will download and install the update as soon as the device acknowledges the command and the user will not be able to stop the update. The user will receive a system notification indicating that their admin has requested an OS Update that will start immediately.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card important\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/important-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Important:<\/strong> \n<ul>\n<li>JumpCloud recommends using the&nbsp;<strong>Install Later Today&nbsp;<\/strong>command to ensure the best update process. Using&nbsp;<strong>Install ASAP<\/strong>&nbsp;can result in a good end-user experience if used with good communication.<strong>&nbsp;Install Now (Force Update)<\/strong>&nbsp;should only be used when the risk of data loss is outweighed by the risk to security.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you select&nbsp;<strong>Install Now (Force Update)<\/strong>&nbsp;the user will&nbsp;<strong>not&nbsp;<\/strong>be able to stop the update, and active applications with unsaved work will be forcibly closed without user participation, which could result in data loss.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li>If you selected<strong>&nbsp;Install Later Today&nbsp;<\/strong>or&nbsp;<strong>Install ASAP<\/strong>, select&nbsp;<strong>Schedule Update&nbsp;<\/strong>in the window that appears. If you selected&nbsp;<strong>Install Now (Force Update)<\/strong>, select&nbsp;<strong>Update Now<\/strong>&nbsp;in the window that appears.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>If the command is sent to the device successfully, you\u2019ll see a message indicating this in the top right of your screen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Note:<\/strong> \n<p>Using MDM Commands to enforce macOS updates can occasionally result in unexpected behavior. End users may be prompted to allow the update process to begin, which can give them time to save work and close active applications.
