{"id":76749,"date":"2023-06-05T13:12:16","date_gmt":"2023-06-05T17:12:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/?post_type=support&#038;p=76749"},"modified":"2023-06-22T10:52:31","modified_gmt":"2023-06-22T14:52:31","slug":"assign-command-runners","status":"publish","type":"support","link":"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/assign-command-runners","title":{"rendered":"Assign Command Runners"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>There are two primary user roles in the JumpCloud Admin Portal: Administrators and Command Runners&nbsp;(see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/manage-admin-accounts\">Manage Admin Accounts<\/a>&nbsp;for more details). Command Runner users have very limited capabilities. They can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>View Commands to which they&#8217;ve been given access in&nbsp;<strong>Commands<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Run Commands to which they&#8217;ve been given access in&nbsp;<strong>Commands<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>View the results of commands to which they&#8217;ve been given access in&nbsp;<strong>Commands<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Command Runner users cannot edit commands or their schedules, nor can they access any other part of JumpCloud. The Command Runner role is to allow a senior system administrator to prepare any number of automated commands, and then be able to delegate the authority to run that command to a person who may have more limited technical knowledge or ability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Creating a Command Runner User in JumpCloud<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>To create a Command Runner user, log in to your JumpCloud account as an Administrator.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select your initials, and click&nbsp;<strong>Administrators<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click (&nbsp;<strong>+&nbsp;<\/strong>) in the&nbsp;<strong>Settings&nbsp;<\/strong>&gt;&nbsp;<strong>Administrators&nbsp;<\/strong>tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the email of the user, and select&nbsp;<strong>Command Runner<\/strong>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<strong>Command Runner with Billing<\/strong>.&nbsp;Billing access allows a user to enter new credit cards in JumpCloud, so that you can create a user who is not associated with any command, who can only update the credit card information on your account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The user will receive a verification email. When they click the&nbsp;<strong>Verify&nbsp;<\/strong>link, they&#8217;ll be able to set a password for their Command Runner account. If you have enabled Multi-factor Authentication for the user, they will need to configure an authenticator app on their smartphone with the QR code provided during verification.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Joining a Command Runner User to a Command<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When the Command Runner user is created, they can immediately be associated with any command in your JumpCloud Commands list. To do so:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Go to&nbsp;<strong>DEVICE MANAGEMENT<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>Commands<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>&gt;<\/strong>&nbsp;to view an existing command&#8217;s details, or (&nbsp;<strong>+<\/strong>&nbsp;)&nbsp;to create a new command.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Command Runners<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the Command Runner users to associate with the command.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>When the Command Runner user enters the JumpCloud Admin Portal, they will be able to see the commands you&#8217;ve associated them with, as well as run them and see the results of the commands.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are two primary user roles in the JumpCloud Admin Portal: Administrators and Command Runners&nbsp;(see&nbsp;Manage Admin Accounts&nbsp;for more details).
