These commands help you remotely control macOS,&nbsp;iOS, and iPadOS devices. Admins with the requisite permission level can run these MDM commands from the JumpCloud Admin Portal:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-wpdatatables-wpdatatables-gutenberg-block\">\n<div macOS will fail to erase. The device remains locked until the user enters the PIN. The user cannot log in until the PIN is entered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/login\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to&nbsp;<strong>DEVICE MANAGEMENT &gt; Devices<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the&nbsp;<strong>Devices<\/strong>&nbsp;tab, then find the macOS device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the device row, click&nbsp;<strong>Actions<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Lock Device<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>Lock This Device<\/strong> dialog box, enter a six-digit PIN. Use a number that\u2019s easy to remember, or save it in a safe place, as JumpCloud does not save this information.&nbsp;This is the PIN that the user will need to enter to unlock the device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>yes, lock<\/strong>.&nbsp;The device immediately restarts and displays a screen to enter the PIN to unlock the device. Allow 5-10 minutes for the device\u2019s status to change in the JumpCloud Admin Portal.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-restart-a-macos-device\">Restart a macOS Device<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Send the restart command to immediately restart the device. Any unsaved work on the device is lost. If the device restarts quickly, the device\u2019s status in the JumpCloud Admin Portal might not change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/login\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to&nbsp;<strong>DEVICE MANAGEMENT &gt; Devices<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the&nbsp;<strong>Devices<\/strong>&nbsp;tab, then find the macOS device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the device row, click&nbsp;<strong>Actions<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Restart Device<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>Restart This Device<\/strong> dialog box, click&nbsp;<strong>yes, restart<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-shut-down-a-macos-device\">Shut Down a macOS Device<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Send the shut down command to immediately shut&nbsp;down the device. Any unsaved work on the device is lost. If the device restarts quickly, the device\u2019s status in the JumpCloud Admin Portal might not change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/login\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to&nbsp;<strong>DEVICE MANAGEMENT &gt; Devices<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the&nbsp;<strong>Devices<\/strong>&nbsp;tab, then find the macOS device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the device row, click&nbsp;<strong>Actions<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Shut Down<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>Shut Down This Device<\/strong> dialog box, click&nbsp;<strong>yes, shut down<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-erase-a-macos-device\">Erase a macOS Device<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Send the erase command to immediately erase the hard drive on the macOS device, even if the device is locked. Everything on the hard drive, including macOS software, is removed. The user is not warned of this action. See <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.apple.com\/documentation\/devicemanagement\/erase_a_device\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Apple&#8217;s Developer Documentation<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Note:<\/strong> \n<ul>\n<li>In macOS Monterey 12 and later, the erase command uses Erase All Content and Settings (EACS) on devices with Apple silicon or the Apple T2 Security Chip. EACS removes all user data and lets you quickly restore a macOS device to the Setup Assistant. If EACS can\u2019t run on a macOS 12+ device, the device falls back on Apple\u2019s obliteration behavior (macOS Big Sur 11 and prior).\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apple Silicon devices don&#8217;t prompt for a PIN after issuing the erase command whereas Intel-based devices do. To enable a PIN on Apple Silicon devices, first issue the lock command followed by the erase command.
