If you add an account to JumpCloud where the user name on the account matches the user name in JumpCloud, JumpCloud will &#8220;take over&#8221; this user account. This takeover lets you change the password and disable the account from that point forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the local user does not currently exist on the machine, JumpCloud will automatically create a new account when a JumpCloud user is bound to the device.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Considerations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Pre-existing accounts not added to JumpCloud are not affected by JumpCloud in any way. This includes the Administrator account on the system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you want JumpCloud to manage an account that was linked to Windows Live, you must first unlink it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/forum\/all\/windows-10-microsoft-account-vs-local-account\/de1330af-1771-4c5e-9bde-b19bff619e9b\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Microsoft Accounts<\/a>&nbsp;are different than local user accounts.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To unlink an account in Windows 10 and 11<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Open&nbsp;<strong>Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to<strong> Accounts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Your Info<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on&nbsp;<strong>Sign in with a local account instead<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card tip\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/tip-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Tip:<\/strong> \n<p>In Windows 11, scroll down to <strong>Account Settings<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Microsoft account<\/strong> to see this option.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>You&#8217;re prompted to switch to a local account. Click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the Windows Security prompt, enter your Microsoft Account password and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter your local account credentials and click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Note:<\/strong> \n<p>For your user name, use your JumpCloud username (not your full name).
