To configure the integration, it&#8217;s important understand the relationship between the products and how they are integrated. The following diagram in conjunction with the instructions that follow, show the basic interoperation of JumpCloud\u2019s LDAP authentication service, the QNAP NAS, and the client attempting to access files.<br><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"655\" height=\"493\" class=\"wp-image-112234\" style=\"width: 655px\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/jumpcloud_ldap_qnap_integration.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/jumpcloud_ldap_qnap_integration.jpg 655w, https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/jumpcloud_ldap_qnap_integration-300x226.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 655px) 100vw, 655px\" \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prerequisites<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Cloud LDAP is configured correctly in JumpCloud. See <a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/use-cloud-ldap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Use Cloud LDAP<\/a> to learn more.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>LDAP users and\/or user groups are configured in JumpCloud. See <a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/create-an-ldap-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Create an LDAP Group<\/a> to learn more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Configuring JumpCloud User Groups for QNAP QTS via LDAP<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To proceed, Cloud LDAP and a LDAP BindDN user must be configured. If you\u2019ve not configured a BindDN User, see <a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/use-cloud-ldap#create-an-ldap-binding-user\">Creating an LDAP Bind User<\/a> to learn more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To configure JumpCloud user groups for QNAP<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/login\/admin\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>USER MANAGEMENT<\/strong> &gt; <strong>User Groups.<\/strong>\n<ol start=\"1\" style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\">\n<li>Select a user group that you want to be synced to QNAP QTS.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under the <strong>Details <\/strong>tab, select both <strong>Create Linux group for this user group<\/strong> and <strong>Enable Samba Authentication<\/strong> checkboxes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fill out a Linux Group Name and Group GID. \n<ul>\n<li><strong>Note<\/strong>: QTS reserves a GID range from 0 to 99. When adding a new account, ensure that the UID and GID does not conflict with an existing UID or GID.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At the bottom right, click <strong>Save <\/strong>to apply your changes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repeat this step for all of the user groups you want to be available in QNAP QTS.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Note:<\/strong> \n<p>These JumpCloud User Groups will be available on the NAS in <strong>Domain Groups<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><br><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"584\" height=\"481\" class=\"wp-image-112331\" style=\"width: 500px\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/jc_ldap_user_group_linux_group_and_samba.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/jc_ldap_user_group_linux_group_and_samba.jpg 584w, https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/jc_ldap_user_group_linux_group_and_samba-300x247.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Configuring QTS for Microsoft Networking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to access file shares on Windows devices, the name of the workgroup configured in QTS must be identical to the name of the workgroup configured in your JumpCloud LDAP Instance.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To view Workgroup information in the LDAP Directory<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>First, get the name of the QNAP QTS Workgroup:\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\">\n<li>In QNAP QTS, go to <strong>Control Panel &gt; Network &amp; File Services &gt; Win\/Mac\/NFS\/WebDAV &gt; Microsoft Networking<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then view the name of the JumpCloud Workgroup:\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\">\n<li>In the JumpCloud Admin Portal, go to <strong>USER AUTHENTICATION<\/strong> &gt; <strong>LDAP. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the JumpCloud LDAP instance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go the <strong>Details<\/strong> tab &gt; <strong>LDAP Configuration<\/strong> to locate the <strong>Workgroup<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Configuring QNAP QTS to use JumpCloud LDAP<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To configure the QNAP QTS device to use JumpCloud LDAP<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>In QNAP QTS, go to <strong>Control Panel &gt; Privilege &gt; Domain Security<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>LDAP authentication<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For <strong>Select the type of LDAP server<\/strong>, select <strong>Remote LDAP server<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For the <strong>LDAP server host<\/strong>, enter <a href=\"http:\/\/ldap.jumpcloud.com\">ldap.jumpcloud.com<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For the <strong>LDAP security <\/strong>setting, select a security type such as <strong>ldap:\/\/(ldap+TLS)<\/strong>.<br><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"655\" height=\"400\" class=\"wp-image-112317\" style=\"width: 655px\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/qnap_qts_control_panel_ldap_config1.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/qnap_qts_control_panel_ldap_config1.jpg 655w, https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/qnap_qts_control_panel_ldap_config1-300x183.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 655px) 100vw, 655px\" \/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For the <strong>Base DN<\/strong>, enter the string displayed in JumpCloud under <strong>ORG DN<\/strong> in <strong>LDAP\u2019s Details Tab<\/strong>.<br>This should look like the value: <kbd>o=XXXXXXXXXXXXX,dc=jumpcloud,dc=com<\/kbd><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For the <strong>Root DN<\/strong>, enter the string displayed in JumpCloud under <strong>Samba Service Account DN<\/strong> in JumpCloud\u2019s LDAP <strong>Details Tab<\/strong>.<br>This should look like the value: <kbd>uid=your.ldab.bind.userid,ou=Users,o=XXXXXXXXXX,dc=jumpcloud,dc=com<\/kbd><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the password for the <strong>SAMBA SERVICE ACCOUNT<\/strong> (the JumpCloud BindDN User LDAP password).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For <strong>Users base DN<\/strong> and <strong>Group base DN<\/strong>, enter the same string:<br><kbd>ou=Users,o=XXXXXXXXX,dc=jumpcloud,dc=com<\/kbd><br>Where the o= value is the same from your earlier configurations from earlier.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Apply<\/strong>. The LDAP authentication options window will appear.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>LDAP users only: Only LDAP users can access the NAS via Microsoft Networking<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Finish<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The NAS connects to the JumpCloud LDAP directory.
