{"id":108923,"date":"2024-05-02T18:59:14","date_gmt":"2024-05-02T22:59:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/?post_type=support&#038;p=108923"},"modified":"2024-09-27T12:45:48","modified_gmt":"2024-09-27T16:45:48","slug":"maintain-the-google-workspace-integration","status":"publish","type":"support","link":"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/maintain-the-google-workspace-integration","title":{"rendered":"Maintain the Google Workspace Integration"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>After configuring your Google Workspace integration, you can perform the following maintenance tasks on the synced directory:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#renaming-a-google-workspace-directory\">Renaming a Google Workspace Directory<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#modifying-the-email-address-of-an-existing-synced-user\">Modifying the email address of an existing synced user<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#disabling-group-management\">Disabling group management<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#managing-domains\">Managing domains<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#reactivating-google-workspace-sync\">Reactivating Google Workspace Sync<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#deactivating-google-workspace-sync\">Deactivating Google Workspace Sync<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"rename-google-workspace\"><strong>Renaming a Google Workspace Directory<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can rename a Google Workspace directory at any time in the Admin Portal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to&nbsp;<strong>DIRECTORY INTEGRATIONS&nbsp;<\/strong>&gt;<strong>&nbsp;Cloud Directories<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the Google Workspace directory you want to rename.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the&nbsp;<strong>pencil<\/strong>&nbsp;icon next to the directory name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter a new unique name for the directory.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click outside of the&nbsp;<strong>name<\/strong>&nbsp;field to save the new name.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-modifying-the-email-address-of-an-existing-synced-user\"><strong>Modifying the email address of an existing synced user<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>USER MANAGEMENT &gt; Users<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Search for and select the user.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the user&#8217;s <strong>Details <\/strong>tab, enter the updated email address and click <strong>Save User<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card important\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/important-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Important:<\/strong> \n<p>Ensure that only the part before the &#8220;@&#8221; symbol is modified. Changing the domain name itself (e.g., from @example.com to @newexample.com) will disrupt synchronization between JumpCloud and Google Workspace.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>JumpCloud will automatically synchronize the updated email to Google Workspace. Check Google Workspace to ensure that the modified email address has been successfully updated as preferred.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card tip\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/tip-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Tip:<\/strong> \n<p>See&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/sync-user-attributes-with-google-workspace#attribute-data-flow\">Attribute Data Flow<\/a>&nbsp;to review the attribute data flow between Google Workspace and JumpCloud after integration.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"disable-group-management\"><strong>Disabling group management<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card important\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/important-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Important:<\/strong> \n<p>If you disable group and membership management, no further changes are made to distribution groups in Google Workspace.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Go to <strong>DIRECTORY INTEGRATIONS &gt; Cloud Directories<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the Google Workspace directory you want to manage groups for.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>Google Workspace Sync<\/strong> section of the <strong>Details <\/strong>tab, deselect <strong>Enable management of groups and memberships in Google Workspace<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>continue <\/strong>and then <strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"manage-domains\"><strong>Managing domains<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you add domains in Google Workspace, want to change which domains sync, or change which domain is used as the default domain for the integration, follow the instructions in this section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To edit the domains list<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>DIRECTORY INTEGRATIONS &gt; Cloud Directories<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the Google Workspace directory in which you want to create and manage the group(s).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Edit Domains<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the radio button next to one of the domains to use that domain for the UserPrincipalName translation rule<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To change the default domain used for the integration<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>Cloud Directories<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the Google Workspace directory.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Edit Domains<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the domain name and make a new selection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click Click <strong>+Add Domain<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the dropdown menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select one of the domains from the list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repeat steps 5-8 until all changes have been made<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To remove domains from the list<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>Cloud Directories<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the Google Workspace directory in which you want to create and manage the group(s).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Edit Domains<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the trash icon next to the domain you want to remove from the list<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To revert to not specifying a default domain<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>Cloud Directories<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the Google Workspace directory.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Edit Domains<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the radio button next to <strong>No default<\/strong>. Only users with matching domains sync.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"reactivate-google-workspace-sync\"><strong>Reactivating Google Workspace Sync<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To resolve connection issues, you may need to reactivate Google Workspace sync. You may also need to reactivate Google Workspace sync to refresh tokens for the Google Super Admin user account that maintains a persistent connection with JumpCloud through OAuth2.0.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Note:<\/strong> \n<p>Reactivating either with the same Google admin account or a different Google admin account will not disconnect users from the integration or disconnect their active Google Workspace sessions. It will also not send any notification to users.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to&nbsp;<strong>DIRECTORY INTEGRATIONS&nbsp;<\/strong>&gt;<strong>&nbsp;Cloud Directories<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the Google Workspace directory for which you want to reactivate sync and click&nbsp;<strong>reactivate sync<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Follow Google&#8217;s prompts to authorize JumpCloud.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"deactivate-google-workspace-sync\"><strong>Deactivating Google Workspace Sync<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you no longer want to sync a Google Workspace directory with JumpCloud, you can deactivate sync for it from&nbsp;the Cloud Directories tab of the Admin Portal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card warning\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/warning-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Warning:<\/strong> \n<p>If you&#8217;re experiencing connection issues or need to refresh tokens for privileged users, reactivate sync for the Google Workspace domain rather than deactivating the sync. Deactivation breaks sync for a Google Workspace directory and disconnects all connected users and groups.
