Ensuring users and systems are secure is challenging when you are working with multiple platforms <\/span>\u2013<\/span> Windows, Mac, and Linux. Not only is the challenge for IT admins to manage the variety of systems, but how do you remotely manage each machine?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n This device management problem has reared its ugly head more recently. A decade and a half ago the problem was much easier to solve. Each IT organization was largely homogeneous with Microsoft Windows as their OS platform of choice. Microsoft offered multiple solutions to help manage devices with one being <\/span>Microsoft Active Directory\u00ae<\/span><\/a> and their Group Policy Objects functionality and the other being Microsoft SMS and now called SCCM.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n As the world shifted to be heterogeneous and mobile, AD\u2019s GPOs couldn\u2019t handle an IT organization\u2019s needs.
