Setting an expiration date for your credentials is an important security practice. Vault helps you to manage credentials for various resources like computers, devices, databases, and social networks, that should be changed periodically. By configuring an expiration date, you will see a dashboard alert when a credential is about to expire or has already expired, prompting you to take action and maintain your security.
Setting an Expiration Date
To set an expiration date for your credentials:
- During the credential registration process in Vault, choose the type of credential you're adding: a key or a password.
- Enter the desired expiration date.
- Click Save.
Vault will notify you when a change is needed, but the main administrator is responsible for manually updating the credential. This involves updating it on both the resource itself and within the Vault.
