Manage Windows Apps

After you have installed your Windows apps on your users’ devices, you can modify those apps and ensure that the apps are regularly updated. This allows you to manage the apps your employees have access to and ensure they are on the latest version.

Modifying a Software App

After you create and save a software app, you can modify the following:

  • Software Name.
  • Device groups where the app is deployed.
  • Individual devices where the app is deployed.

If you want to change the Package ID, you need to remove the software app instance first, and then add a new software app with the new Package ID.

To modify an existing software app:

Details tab of a Software Management app within the JumpCloud Admin Console.
  1. Log in to the JumpCloud Admin Portal: https://console.jumpcloud.com.
  2. Go to DEVICE MANAGEMENT > Software Management.
  3. In the Windows tab, select the app you want to modify.
  4. Select the tab that corresponds to the edits you wish to make and enter any changes.
  5. Click save.

Updating Software Apps Automatically

You can choose for software updates to be automatically installed on a user’s system, either right away or at the user’s discretion (up to 7 days).

If you choose to allow a user to delay the software update, a Windows System Notification will appear when the update is available. Users can choose:

  • Update Now – The app will update immediately.
  • Snooze – The user will receive daily prompts to install the update for up to 7 days, after which the update will automatically install.

To enable automatic software updates for an app:

  1. Log in to the JumpCloud Admin Portal: https://console.jumpcloud.com.
  2. Go to DEVICE MANAGEMENT > Software Management.
  3. In the Windows tab, select the app from the list.
  4. On the Details tab, select Keep software package up to date in the Installation Settings section.
  5. (Optional) Select Allow end users to delay updates for up to one week if you want to allow your users to delay automatic updates. If the update isn’t installed after seven days, the app will automatically update.
  6. Click save.

When automatic updates are enabled, the agent checks every half-hour for a new version of the app. If a new version exists, the agent uses ChocolateyGet to install the new app on the device.
