Subscribe to Help Center RSS FeedEnterprise Portal Admins can save valuable time and reduce errors when running custom commands on devices across many organizations by creating command templates. These can be accessed, and applied to any of your organizations, instead of manually configuring commands for each one.
Terminology:
- Enterprise Portal: Portal where Enterprise Admins manage settings for multiple organizations under one Enterprise Configuration. Differs from the JumpCloud Admin Portal, which is for one organization
- Enterprise (formerly Enterprise Configuration): Centralized hub for all the organizations' objects in the Enterprise Portal. Items can be created and shared for organizations in the Enterprise Portal from this hub
- Organizations: A division of the enterprise (for example a region or a country) that maintains its own users, devices, and resources
Prerequisites:
- You need to have Admin with Billing permissions in order to create command templates.
Creating Command Templates
To create command templates:
- Log in to your Enterprise Portal.
- Click on Device Management > Commands.
- Click ( + Command), then select Command which allows you to manually create a new command. For help creating a new command manually, see Get Started: Commands.
- After your fields are filled out, click save and create template.
- You can filter the list of templates by clicking filter by and selecting Default Templates or Custom Templates.
- JumpCloud manages the set of Default Templates available for use, whereas the Custom Templates are the ones you've created and saved.
- This saves a local copy of the command to the org, while also storing it as a template that can be accessed and applied to any of your other orgs. Now when you go to create a command from a template, your new template will be saved as an option for you to choose from.
- Uploaded files won't be stored in templates.
Using Command Templates
To use command templates:
- Log in to your Enterprise Portal.
- Go to Device Management > Commands.
- On the Commands page, click ( + Command ) and choose Command from Template.
- In the Configure New Command from Template window:
- Select the OS tab to view the existing command templates for that OS.
- Find the template you want to use as a basis for your new command.
- Click configure.
- In the New Command window, enter a unique name for the new command to differentiate it from other commands.
- For Type, select Linux, Windows, or Mac.
- Make other necessary changes to the settings. For instructions on changing each field, see Get Started: Commands.
- Click the Device Groups tab to select the device groups where this command will execute.
- Select the Devices tab to select the devices where this command will execute.
- Optional: Select the Command Runners tab to select a user as a Command Runner with access to run the command. Admins can run commands on all devices by default.
- Click save to create a new command.
- Optional: Click save and create template if you made any edits and want another template created.
- To run your newly created command, find it on the Commands page and click Run Now.
Managing Command Templates
- From your managed org, go to Device Management > Commands.
- Click Manage Command Templates. All of your available templates will be listed, with the options to Edit or Delete them.
- Any updates/edits made to a saved template will not affect existing commands created from the original version of that template.
Command After Agent Install
A command created to run after agent install runs only once after the JumpCloud agent is installed on the device. These types of commands are useful for delivering applications and licensing information to new users during device provisioning, or for applying a naming policy to new devices.
