JumpCloud Agent Release Notes for September 14, 2026

New Agent release (version 2.173.0)

note

Agent releases are rolled out over the course of the week. You may not see these changes right away.

macOS and Windows

Enhancements

  • Updated device login labeling to display Authenticator code instead of TOTP where applicable. This reduces user confusion during multi-factor authentication (MFA) at the login screen.
  • Added Short Message Service (SMS) one-time password (OTP) MFA support in the tray app and Device Login password-change flows. This provides administrators with an additional MFA option on managed devices.

macOS

Fixes

  • Resolved an issue by implementing transactional installations for App Catalog applications. This reduces "app is damaged or can't be opened" failures when catalog applications are updated on macOS.

Windows

Enhancements

  • Added machine-wide installation, updates, and uninstallation for MSIX software, including MSI-to-MSIX conversion paths. This allows administrators to deliver modern packaged applications on Windows without relying solely on Winget.
  • Updated Windows tray app and credential provider connectivity checks to point to dedicated endpoints instead of the Admin Portal URL. This ensures sign-in and online status checks are more reliable and less likely to be blocked by network policies.
  • Hardened how the agent loads the PnpDevice PowerShell module. This prevents malicious modules on the default PSModulePath from hijacking the Recommended Actions collection.

Fixes

  • Resolved an issue to prevent the agent from changing Internet Explorer security zones when installing Device Trust certificates. This preserves the custom Trusted Sites and zone policies previously configured on devices.
  • Resolved an issue with MFA prompts for bound users. Push MFA is now the default on the new Windows credential provider at login, aligning with expected authentication behavior.
