Configure Zapier for the AI Gateway

To allow your users to execute automated workflows and interact with integrated applications using their AI clients, you can configure the Zapier Model Context Protocol (MCP) server within the JumpCloud AI Gateway.

Prerequisites​

  • Before configuring specific enterprise applications, we recommend reviewing the Get Started: AI Gateway guide to familiarize yourself with the gateway architecture and core AI concepts (such as MCP servers and AI clients).

  • An active Zapier account.

Completing Application Setup​

The JumpCloud AI Gateway is not on Zapier's supported MCP client list, so OAuth authentication is not supported. You must register the AI Gateway as an Other client in the Zapier MCP portal and authenticate using a connection token.

Before you can connect this server to JumpCloud, each user must create a dedicated MCP server in Zapier and generate a connection token. See Zapier's Zapier MCP quickstart and Zapier MCP for any MCP client to learn more.

Ensure the following prerequisites are met:

  • Create an MCP server: Go to mcp.zapier.com and click + Add MCP Server.
  • Register the client: Under Choose your AI agent, click See all, then select Other.
  • Configure tools: Enable the Zapier actions you want your AI clients to access on this server. See Zapier's How Zapier MCP tools work to learn more about agentic and managed modes.
  • Generate a connection token: Open the Connect tab, click Generate token, and copy the token immediately. Zapier only shows the token once. If you lose it, you must regenerate the token to create a new one.
Important

Treat a Zapier connection token like a password. Zapier recommends giving each user their own MCP server and token rather than sharing one across users.

Configuring the Server in JumpCloud​

See Adding MCP Servers in Configure AI Gateway Integrations and use the following values to configure this server:

  • App: Select Zapier (if you have an existing SSO application or bookmark), or + Add App to create it
  • Name: Enter a name, for example Zapier
  • Prefix: Enter a value to prepend to MCP tool names
    • Note: Prefixes must be unique. Maximum 8 characters, letters and numbers only
  • URL: https://mcp.zapier.com/api/v1/connect
  • MCP authentication method: API
  • App API documentation link: Enter https://docs.zapier.com/mcp/get-started/connect/other

Your users will now see Zapier listed as an available application when they authenticate their AI clients through the JumpCloud AI Gateway. When prompted, users can click the documentation link you provided to learn how to generate their Zapier connection token.
