To allow your users to securely query issues, manage projects, and track development cycles using their AI clients, you can configure the Linear Model Context Protocol (MCP) server within the JumpCloud AI Gateway.
Prerequisites
Before configuring specific enterprise applications, we recommend reviewing the Get Started: AI Gateway guide to familiarize yourself with the gateway architecture and core AI concepts (such as MCP servers and AI clients).
Completing Application Setup
Linear’s MCP server supports OAuth Dynamic Client Registration (DCR), so no app creation or additional configuration is required to connect it to the AI Gateway. Refer to Linear’s MCP server to learn more.
Configuring the Server in JumpCloud
To add the Linear MCP server to the AI Gateway:
- Log in to the JumpCloud Admin Portal.
If your data is stored outside of the US, check which login URL you should be using depending on your region. If your organization uses LDAP, RADIUS, or requires firewall allow list configuration, the Fully Qualified Domain Names (FQDNs) will also be region specific. See JumpCloud Data Centers for the URLs, FQDNs, and IP addresses.
- Go to Access > AI Gateway.
- Select the Servers tab.
- Click + Add Server.
- In the App dropdown, select Linear, or select Custom App.
- Enter a Name for the server.
- Enter a Prefix to prepend to the MCP tool names.
- Note: Prefixes must be unique.
- Under URL, enter the Linear remote MCP server URL: https://mcp.linear.app/mcp
Linear supports limiting access to the MCP server by modifying the MCP server URL. For example, for read-only access, use this URL: https://mcp.linear.app/mcp/readonly
- Under MCP Authentication method, select OAuth.
- Click Create.
Your users will now see Linear listed as an available tool when they authenticate their AI clients through the JumpCloud AI Gateway.
