People of JumpCloud | Matt Henderson

People are the lifeblood of any organization, but so rarely do they receive the spotlight like the innovative applications and services, company missions, and devoted customer communities they work so hard to create. We want to change that.

At JumpCloud every individual makes a difference, and their work matters no matter what function they hold. This ongoing series aims to showcase the personalities and contributions of every JumpCloudian and share the spotlight with the people who work hard every day to help Make Work HappenTM.

Matt Henderson (He/Him)
Senior Manager of Digital Marketing
Lafayette, CO

We recently caught up with Matt Henderson about what it’s like to work as Senior Manager of Digital Marketing at JumpCloud.

When did you start working at JumpCloud? August 2018.

Can you run us through a day in the life of your role at JumpCloud? I think of our team as owning the domain of the first and maybe second impressions that IT administrators and managed service providers (MSPs) have with JumpCloud. We’re in charge of finding people that are looking to use a product like JumpCloud and then sharing what we do with them to make a great match. We do that through telling different stories on advertising platforms.

How have you grown as an individual since starting at the company? The top way that I’ve changed is learning how to better adapt to the perpetual changes. JumpCloud’s rapid growth has brought about a lot of change – the only way that I’ve been able to manage this growth has been to be adaptive and to always stay in a learning mindset.

Pick a JumpCloud value (Build Connections, Think Big, 1% Better Every Day) and share an example of how you lived that value recently. 1% Better Every Day – Recently, we’ve received more and more requests to run various ad campaigns from multiple different teams. We’ve needed to break our work into one-week increments and prioritize it so that the evergreen backlog stack doesn’t tower too high. Being able to pull in what we can manage every week gives us some breathing room and allows us to plan our weeks out. It also helps us to react less, and hopefully plan more (even if it’s just 1% more).

What is something that you have accomplished at JumpCloud that you are proud of? I’m really proud to have been a contributor in helping us grow from our startup phase into our current rapid growth stage. I’ve been learning as much as possible and I’m aiming to be an expert at introducing as many IT admins to JumpCloud as possible (at the right time for them) as we scale. It has been satisfying to help build our trials and customer base grow over the years.

What keeps you energized about working at JumpCloud? Working with great people, and the incredible growth opportunities for me both individually and professionally. I love being a part of delivering a game-changing product.

What do you like to do on your days off? Coffee roasting, rock climbing, backpacking, and watching basketball, football, and hockey.

What advice do you have for prospective JumpCloud candidates? Approach your next job with a perspective of eagerness to learn and listen.

What book or movie have you recently read/seen and why would you recommend it? I’m five books deep into the Dune series which has been a wild ride. While I don’t agree with every idea the author Frank Herbert has, it’s a great way to think about topics including politics, religion, hierarchies, free will, the human condition, etc. in a somewhat disarming setting (space).

What’s something you plan to do in the next year that you’ve never done? I’m trying to hop the pond with my wife and explore some parts of Europe. I’ve signed up to run a half marathon in the mountains this summer, and I also have plans to climb the most Colorado 14ers that I’ve climbed in a season.

What is your 15 minutes of fame? I had a popular TV persona randomly answer my question and say my name live on air.

If you could only eat one item for every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Carne asada tacos.

Do you have any pets as in-house colleagues? We’re getting an Australian shepherd in June!
