We recently caught up with Jantel Fontenot about what it’s like to work as a Talent Acquisition Specialist at JumpCloud.
When did you start working at JumpCloud? November 2021.
Can you run us through a day in the life of your role at JumpCloud? None of my days look alike, which is pretty fun. My role is a combination of scheduling, sourcing, DE&I research along with some kind of project, and recently working with marketing for our employer branding for LinkedIn.
How have you grown as an individual since starting at the company? My brain continues to expand as I am constantly learning more about the tech industry, IT, startups, and everything JumpCloud. I am also learning more about DE&I and figuring out how to best apply the things I’m learning to my role and the people I work with.
Pick a JumpCloud value (Build Connections, Think Big, 1% Better Every Day) and share an example of how you lived that value recently. Build Connections — I have had the opportunity to work with the Learning team and help with onboarding, be a part of the DE&I steering committee, and now work with the Marketing team. I have also developed relationships with co-workers in Finance, Sales, and Engineering.
What is something that you have accomplished at JumpCloud that you are proud of? I successfully led the development and completion of JumpCloud’s LinkedIn Life page!
What keeps you energized about working at JumpCloud? The great people that I get to work with everyday, the growing and changing company that inspires me, and the ability to be creative and keep evolving as a person/professional.
What do you like to do on your days off? I am a local actress/filmmaker so most of my off days consist of being on a set or working with a crew to create a beautiful independent film. I also enjoy watching movies, binging streaming shows, traveling, and eating out –— I’m a big foodie!
What advice do you have for prospective JumpCloud candidates? Be yourself, truly. Let the people you interview with know what you’re passionate about, and be honest about what you truly want to do and the kind of environment that you thrive in.
What book or movie have you recently read/seen and why would you recommend it? Do the Work by Dr. Nicole LePera is one that I’ve continuously been reading. I have to re-read it so that everything soaks in. It is insightful and helps you heal yourself of any internal battles you may be struggling with.
What’s something you plan to do in the next year that you’ve never done? Being on a streaming TV show or traveling out of the country! BOTH would be fantastic!
What is your 15 minutes of fame? When someone recognized me from a movie I did a few years ago on Amazon Prime.
If you could only eat one item for every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Carne asada street tacos!
Do you have any pets as in-house colleagues? Ha-ha, he’s a part-time worker — a Maltipoo named Chance who travels between my house and my mom’s.
