People are the lifeblood of any organization, but so rarely do they receive the spotlight like the innovative applications and services, company missions, and devoted customer communities they work so hard to create. We want to change that.
At JumpCloud every individual makes a difference, and their work matters no matter what function they hold. This ongoing series aims to showcase the personalities and contributions of every JumpCloudian and share the spotlight with the people who work hard every day to help Make Work HappenTM.
Jakob Koons (He/Him)
Outbound Directory Solutions Advisor
We recently caught up with Jakob Koons about what it’s like to work as an Outbound Directory Solutions Advisor at JumpCloud.
When did you start working at JumpCloud? January 2021.
Can you run us through a day in the life of your role at JumpCloud? A typical day for me, like most people, starts out with a large cup of coffee and diving directly into emails. Once those are caught up I like to put away all distractions and start “smiling and dialing.” An average day for me consists of 60-80 cold calls and around 100 emails. Once I finish my calls, I use G2 and Crunchbase to target companies I believe would benefit from JumpCloud. I work hand in hand with one AE. Whenever we find someone who wants to learn more about JumpCloud we provide a product demo and talk about next steps.
How have you grown as an individual since starting at the company? Since starting at JumpCloud I have seen myself grow in many areas, but the most significant area would have to be my personal accountability. With the help of amazing management and colleagues I have found a structure that has allowed me to have the best work/life balance I have ever experienced in a job.
Pick a JumpCloud value (Build Connections, Think Big, 1% Better Every Day) and share an example of how you lived that value recently. Before JumpCloud I worked in the financial industry and knew my career would be better suited in tech. That being said, I had very little tech experience. Everyday I am constantly becoming 1% better whether it be my knowledge of tech, learning more about our own platform, competitors, or the industry as a whole.
What is something that you have accomplished at JumpCloud that you are proud of? I was the first outbound DSA hire here at JumpCloud. Being able to help build out the role with management and seeing success within the first few months has felt like a big accomplishment!
What keeps you energized about working at JumpCloud? There is a lot here that keeps me energized. Being involved in a high-growth and exciting company and having a product that truly is bettering companies and changing the industry is what keeps me going.
What do you like to do on your days off? Being a Colorado native I naturally like to spend my free time outside. Living in Colorado presents an extremely fun and active lifestyle. I love mountain biking, skiing, fly fishing, rock climbing, golfing, and hanging out with friends at some of the amazing breweries in Denver.
What advice do you have for prospective JumpCloud candidates? Don’t be afraid to present your ideas and make a difference!
What book or movie have you recently read/seen and why would you recommend it? Dune. I saw the movie which encouraged me to get the book because I could not stop thinking about it. If you are into sci-fi, it is a must watch/read.
What’s something you plan to do in the next year that you’ve never done? The ultimate goal for the next year is to go to Madrid, Spain for a few weeks!
If you could only eat one item for every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? This is hard, but I would have to go with a green-chili-smothered chicken burrito.
Do you have any pets as in-house colleagues? Yes, a one-year-old aussie/German shepherd/husky mix. He is about 75 lbs. and full of energy!
