People of JumpCloud | Erin Maloney

People are the lifeblood of any organization, but so rarely do they receive the spotlight like the innovative applications and services, company missions, and devoted customer communities they work so hard to create. We want to change that.

At JumpCloud every individual makes a difference, and their work matters no matter what function they hold. This ongoing series aims to showcase the personalities and contributions of every JumpCloudian and share the spotlight with the people who work hard every day to help Make Work HappenTM.

Erin Maloney (She/Her)
Manager of Learning Solutions
Eugene, OR

We recently caught up with Erin Maloney about what it’s like to work as Manager of Learning Solutions at JumpCloud.

When did you start working at JumpCloud? June 2021.

Can you run us through a day in the life of your role at JumpCloud? Some weeks I am responsible for onboarding new JumpCloudians, which means hosting a set of general onboarding sessions throughout the week to help them get their feet under them. On the weeks that I’m not onboarding folks, I work on projects like the Emerging Leaders Program or our Change Management initiative for 2022. I facilitate professional development sessions (e.g., how to have a growth plan conversation, how to come up with your team charter) and I create self-paced learning modules like “Productivity in the Remote Workplace.” I plan curricula, create content, schedule meetings, and manage projects for our team. I also lead the Learning Solutions team which consists of our Learning Specialist, our Instructional Designer, our Learning Consultant, and a Learning Coordinator we’ll hire a little later in 2022.

How have you grown as an individual since starting at the company? Last June I started as a Learning Partner, as the second member of the Learning Solutions team. Over H2 2021, I took ownership of the general onboarding program and continued to make improvements in content and process. I became a manager in December of 2021 and hired my first team member as a Learning Specialist in January of 2022. I continue to grow as a People Leader, build my strategic planning skills, and I love to take on new projects!

Pick a JumpCloud value (Build Connections, Think Big, 1% Better Every Day) and share an example of how you lived that value recently. Build Connections – From new hire feedback we know it is sometimes challenging to transition from our general onboarding program to individual teams. In December 2021, I collaborated with the JumpCloud Marketing leadership to help create onboarding resources for their department. I created an onboarding calendar document specific to marketing, with content and resources for getting to know the various teams and tech stack. I met with several new marketing hires throughout January and February of 2022 to collect feedback and help them feel grounded in the transition. This is just one example of building connections between Learning Solutions and the fantastic folks on the Marketing team.

What is something that you have accomplished at JumpCloud that you are proud of? We are wrapping up the first iteration of the Emerging Leaders Program which I created. This program will continue to improve and evolve, as we help JumpCloudians with an interest in becoming People Leaders to explore their strengths and areas for growth, and prepare them to step into those roles when they become available.

What keeps you energized about working at JumpCloud? I love my team and especially my manager. She helps me to think big and keep an eye on the future!

What do you like to do on your days off? My favorite thing to do on Saturdays is to be active. I like to swim at the community pool, ride my bike into town to the farmer’s market, and come back and cook something delicious with fresh produce.

What advice do you have for prospective JumpCloud candidates? At JumpCloud, the world is your oyster! This is a place where you can dive into your career and really find out what drives your passion. You then have the space and support to grow and flourish into the phases that come next.

What book or movie have you recently read/seen and why would you recommend it? Relatively recently, I read The Midnight Library, which I liked because of its philosophy that one person has the capacity to lead many possible lives.

What’s something you’re planning on doing in the next year that you’ve never done? Give birth (to a baby girl!).

What is your 15 minutes of fame? When I was a child, I was in a local TV commercial in Erie, Pennsylvania for the local theater’s production of “Little Orphan Annie”, because I had super curly hair.

If you could only eat one item for every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? It would have to be something that changes depending on how you cook it, maybe bread?

Do you have any pets as in-house colleagues? I have two cats; one is my dear 16-year-old companion named Chelsea, who I got as a senior in college. I also adopted another cat seven years ago named Lucy, who is my downstairs coworker and food lover.
