People of JumpCloud | Josie Judy

People are the lifeblood of any organization, but so rarely do they receive the spotlight like the innovative applications and services, company missions, and devoted customer communities they work so hard to create. We want to change that.

At JumpCloud every individual makes a difference, and their work matters no matter what function they hold. This new, ongoing series aims to showcase the personalities and contributions of every JumpCloudian and share the spotlight with the people who work hard every day to help Make Work HappenTM.

We recently caught up with Josie Judy about what it’s like to work as Marketing Communications Manager at JumpCloud (what she considers her “unofficial MBA”). Josie’s typical day involves working on press strategies, executing product launches, and helping to manage timely communication initiatives. Located in Denver, Colorado, Josie likes to spend her time outside of the office attending a cycle or barre class, enjoying a beer with friends, or hiking the Colorado peaks. And sometimes, all of those activities in the same day!

When did you start working at JumpCloud? July 2019.

How did you first learn about JumpCloud? I was introduced to JumpCloud’s previous VP of Marketing two years prior to joining JumpCloud while he was at a different company. Before I joined, JumpCloud was heavily connected with my former company (the business and the people) so it was very familiar to me. Some might call it fate!

Can you run us through a day in the life of your role at JumpCloud? The foundation of every day is a very large cold brew coffee. I work closely with executives, the product team, and the whole marketing department. My main priority can be boiled down to brand awareness. Most days I work on press strategies and the execution of what we dub “Tier 1” product launches, making sure industry analysts are fully aware of what’s going on within JumpCloud and the product, and helping to manage some of our newer communication initiatives (think paid editorial and innovative awareness campaigns).

How have you grown as an individual since starting at the company? I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with the C-suite, board members, and investors during my time at JumpCloud, which has taught me about the inner workings of the business as a whole and what it takes to run a successful company. I’ve been given the opportunity to get involved in different projects and learn from some of the greatest minds in the industry, which has helped me hone my craft as a marketing professional but also as a people leader on the management team. I consider my time at JumpCloud in line with earning an unofficial MBA.

Pick a JumpCloud value (Build Connections, Think Big, 1% Better Every Day) and share an example of how you lived that value recently: My entire role is about building connections, externally and internally. I wholeheartedly believe in the power of human connection, so I make an effort to get to know my fellow colleagues so that I can better work with them professionally.

What is something that you have accomplished at JumpCloud that you are proud of? In PR, I’m very used to hearing “no.” But even a single “yes” can feel like the biggest win. I feel extremely proud anytime we receive earned media around an announcement, and especially when I see JumpCloud in publications like 9to5Mac, The Register, SC Magazine, and The New York Times.

What keeps you energized about working at JumpCloud? Once you finish a project, there is always something new to work on. Whether it’s a new idea for contributed content, a new feature to launch, or an awesome new customer to do a podcast interview with, there’s never a dull moment.

What do you like to do on your days off? I have a hard time sitting still, so you can typically find me attending a cycle or barre class around Denver, enjoying a beer with friends at local breweries and dive bars, or hiking the Colorado peaks. And sometimes, all of those activities in one day!

What advice do you have for prospective JumpCloud candidates? Have passion for what you do and clear direction for where you want to go. If you want to be a part of something big, JumpCloud is where it can all start for you.

What book or movie have you recently read/seen and why would you recommend it? I recently watchedBarb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar.” I love Kristen Wiig and I love to laugh (who doesn’t?), and this movie made my face hurt from laughing.

What’s something you’re planning to do in the next year that you’ve never done? I’m considering taking tennis lessons! A few of my friends are amazing tennis players and I want to learn how to play.

What is your 15 minutes of fame? I used to help out a local radio show with their social media and got to be a guest on air once. A more cringe-worthy example was when a local TV station (9News) did a live segment on my dad’s veterinary practice and I got to say “Back to you, Cathy!”

If you could only eat one item for every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Bagels, 100%.

Do you have any pets as in-house colleagues? My dog Kingston makes a regular appearance on video calls.
