Highlights of the Last Mile Case Study

Background

The Last Mile (TLM) is a nonprofit that is training incarcerated individuals in technology and business skills so that they can successfully reenter society. They started out in one prison in San Quentin, California. Now, they’re in 11 prisons across 4 states. As they expanded, they realized they needed to reevaluate their IT management tool set because it wasn’t scaling.

Requirements

As TLM considered their options, they decided their new directory service would have to provide the following:  

  • Support for Mac systems
  • Robust security features like event logging and multi-factor authentication
  • Automation
  • Support for resources regardless of location, platform, provider, and protocol

The right solution would also scale without needing a ton of people to configure and maintain it.

The Solution

Ultimately, TLM decided to use JumpCloud Directory-as-a-Service because it was going to provide them with the automation, security, and user and system management that they needed to expand the program efficiently.

As TLM’s VP of engineering explained, “JumpCloud supports Linux, OS X, and Windows, and then JumpCloud also has LDAP and RADIUS covered. That is a huge chunk of the infrastructure that I need to scale a firm, and all that’s solved with this one platform.”
